Sierra Nevada Barrel-Aged Atomic Torpedo Coming To 2026 Trip In The Woods Series
This morning, I’ve got an exciting new barrel‑aged IPA coming from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in Chico, California, and Mills River, North Carolina. The brewery is preparing to release Barrel‑Aged Atomic Torpedo, a bold new entry in the 2026 Trip in the Woods Series. This special‑edition ale takes the already‑iconic Atomic Torpedo and elevates it through extended aging in Bourbon barrels, adding depth, warmth, and layers of rich oak character.
Barrel‑Aged Atomic Torpedo will land at a powerful 10.2% ABV, giving this IPA a robust, full‑bodied profile that blends hop intensity with barrel‑aged complexity. Fans can expect a fusion of citrus‑forward hop notes, resinous bitterness, caramel sweetness, toasted oak, and the unmistakable vanilla‑bourbon influence that comes from time spent in freshly emptied barrels (the woods). It’s the kind of hybrid release, part IPA, part barrel‑aged ale, that Sierra Nevada has mastered through years of experimentation.
This limited release will be packaged in 16.9‑oz bottles, consistent with the Trip in the Woods format, making it a standout collector’s piece for fans of Sierra Nevada’s specialty offerings. As with all beers in the series, availability will be limited and distribution selective.
Stay tuned for full 2026 release details, tasting notes, and distribution updates as Sierra Nevada Brewing gets closer to rolling out Barrel‑Aged Atomic Torpedo.
Label Text Sierra Nevada Barrel-Aged Atomic Torpedo:
“A twist on our famed Atomic Torpedo, this beer is aged in bourbon barrels for eighteen months before dry hopping with Cascade, Centennial, and Mosaic. The result is bright hop character atop deep barrel complexity, contributing flavors of vanilla, toasted oak, dark sugar, and toffee, while the hop notes of pine, citrus, and tropical fruit keep things fresh. It’s truly the best of both worlds.”
About Sierra Nevada Brewing:
Our founder, Ken Grossman, made a habit of chasing curiosity. His early years of backyard tinkering and covert science projects set the stage for the ultimate discovery: homebrewing.
Fascinated by the alchemy of fermentation, Ken opened The Home Brew Shop in Chico, slowly playing with more hop-forward flavors at a time when American beer wasn’t known for taking chances.
When he finally started a brewery, Ken scoured salvage yards and defunct dairies to find the tanks, pipes, and valves he needed to hand-build Sierra Nevada’s original brewhouse.
On November 15, 1980, he put his first batch of craft beer to the test. That heady stout was a 13-hour labor of love, and after one sip, he knew he had a keeper. The Pale Ale that followed sparked a true craft beer revolution. The adventure’s never stopped, and our curiosity’s still brewing.
We brew and do business like the planet’s future depends on it. We’re committed to operating sustainably, from slashing our environmental impact and producing alternative energy to farming onsite with regenerative agriculture.
