About Shock Top:
Shock Top is a brand of unfiltered Belgian-style wheat ale known for its prominent citrus and spice flavors. Originally introduced as a seasonal beer in 2006, its popularity led it to become a year-round offering and a major competitor in the American wheat beer market. The brand is now owned by Tilray Brands.
Key Characteristics
Belgian-Style Wheat Ale (Witbier): The flagship beer, Shock Top Belgian White, is a medium-bodied, unfiltered wheat ale that is naturally cloudy with a light golden color.
Flavor Profile: It is brewed with real orange, lemon, and lime peels and coriander spice, which give it a smooth, refreshing taste with a tangy, citrus flavor and a subtle spicy backbone.
Mascot: The brand is well-known for its mascot, “Wedgehead,” a cartoon orange slice with a mohawk and sunglasses, featured prominently on its packaging.
Serving Suggestion: It is often recommended to be served in a glass with an orange wedge garnish to accentuate its citrus notes.
Popular Varieties
While the Belgian White is its most iconic product, the brand has introduced several other flavors and seasonal offerings over the years:
Lemon Shandy: A Belgian-style wheat beer blended with natural lemonade flavor.
Raspberry Wheat: The classic Belgian White flavor with a hint of wild raspberry.
Honeycrisp Apple Wheat: A blend of the wheat beer with sweet, slightly tart apple flavors, similar to a cider hybrid.
Twisted Pretzel Wheat (Limited Time): A unique brew that reviewers noted smells distinctly like a fresh-baked pretzel.
Mango Wheat & Blueberry Wheat: Newer fruit-flavored options that are part of the brand’s recent reintroduction.
Shock Top beers typically have an alcohol by volume (ABV) of around 5.2%.
