imageFrom the SF Brewers Guild:

San Francisco, CA — Friday, Jan. 22, 2016 — In the spirit of a friendly football-esque competition, in partnership with Whole Foods Market, the San Francisco Brewers Guild (SFBG) members drew the lines — South of Market, North of Market — drafted ingredients, then set out to brew two distinct collaboration beers to delight, entrance and, ultimately, gain bragging rights over their peers. That, after all, is the sweetest victory of all.

The final collaboration beers include Team SOMA’s 100 Vara (coffee porter with chicory) and Team NOMA’s Spring Training (saison with yuzu peel, sea salt, raw organic Patwin wheat). These brews will first be tapped tonight at the SF Beer Week Opening Gala (Piers 35, 1454 Embarcadero, San Francisco, Jan. 22, 2016). During SF Beer Week, 100 Vara and Spring Training will be available at various Whole Food Market locations, as well as at additional craft beer venues in San Francisco. Locations can be viewed on drinksfbeer.com/vote

Learn more about these incredible collaboration beers, the participating San Francisco brewers and two charities benefiting from the project below. Upon tasting 100 Vara and Spring Training, cast your vote and read more about the generous donations made possible by Whole Foods Market on behalf of the 26 Guild breweries ondrinksfbeer.com/vote

100 Vara
(Team SOMA)
Style: Coffee Porter (5.9% ABV, 35 IBUs)
El Nino is causing a stir this winter and you need to have a beer that keeps you warm, alert and full. 100 Vara offers an inviting coffee aroma and envelops your palate with roasted notes, toffee, and grounds you with the earthiness of chicory.

Ingredients:
-Drafted Specialty Ingredients from Whole Foods Market: Sulawesi Toarco Peaberry Coffee Beans (sourced & roasted at Allegro Coffee Roaster in Berkeley, CA) and Chicory (Coke Farms, San Juan Bautista, CA).
-Grains from Brewer Supply Group: Maris Otter, Pale Chocolate Malt, Crystal 60, Roasted Barley, Biscuit, Carafa II, Flaked Rye
-Hops from Brewers Supply Group: UK Fuggles & Challenger
-Yeast from White Labs: WLP002 English Ale

Charity: Rebuilding Together SF
Rebuilding Together San Francisco mobilizes teams of volunteers to repair homes and renovate nonprofit facilities and schools. By using and re-using available resource in our communities, we can provide these repairs free of charge to homeowners and nonprofits. Together we transform the lives of low-income homeowners by improving the safety and health of their homes and revitalizing their communities.

Spring Training
(Team NOMA)
Style: Saison (ABV 6.2%, 18 IBUs)
As winter is ushered out by a flurry of football, the NOMA brewers set their sights on the future – bocks, saisons, and Spring Training. Yuzu peel, sea salt, and local Patwin wheat create a bright, citrus-forward beer that’s refreshingly tart and dry.

Ingredients:
-Drafted Specialty Ingredients from Whole Foods Market: Organic Patwin Dry Farmed Wheat (Tule Farms), Yuzu (Central Valley, CA), Sea Salt (Allstar Organics, Nicasio, CA)
-Grains from Brewer Supply Group and Whole Foods Market: Weyermann Floor-Malted Bohemian Pilsner, Weyermann Pale Wheat, Weyermann Acidulated, Unmalted Patwin Wheat
-Hops from Brewers Supply Group: Sterling
-Yeast from White Labs: WLP590 French Saison
