Samuel Adams Launching New Brewer Patriot Collection With James Madison Dark Wheat Ale, George Washington Porter, 1790 Hard Root Beer & No. 3 Ginger Honey Ale
Today I have some fascinating new beers coming from Samuel Adams in Boston, Massachusetts, crafted specifically to help celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary in 2026. This special lineup will debut as the Brewer Patriot Collection, a limited‑edition series inspired by authentic colonial brewing traditions and the recipes enjoyed by the Founding Fathers. Samuel Adams is leaning into historical ingredients, early American brewing methods, and modern craft execution to bring these heritage‑inspired beers to life.
One of the first releases in the Brewer Patriot Collection is James Madison Dark Wheat Ale, a historically rooted wheat ale brewed with smoked malted barley. This beer lands at 5.5% ABV and aims to echo the rustic, smoke‑tinged ales that were common during the early days of American brewing.
Joining it is No. 3 Ginger Honey Ale, an ale brewed with ginger, lemon peel, and honey, with additional honey added during the brewing process for depth and authenticity. This beer also clocks in at 5.5% ABV, offering a bright, aromatic profile that nods to the spice‑driven ales of the colonial era.
Next up, I have George Washington Porter American porter brewed with molasses and licorice root powder. This beer will also hit 5.5%-AbV and 1790 Hard Root Beer will be an ale brewed with molasses, honey and natural flavors (5.5%-AbV).
All four beers will be packaged in 16‑oz cans, and early indications suggest that Samuel Adams may be preparing a full variety pack for the 2026 celebration—potentially including additional colonial‑inspired recipes as the series expands.
Stay tuned for more beers in the Brewer Patriot Collection, along with release details, packaging formats, and tasting notes as Samuel Adams continues rolling out this historic anniversary project.

About Samuel Adams:
Samuel Adams is a leading independent, American craft brewer that helped to launch the craft beer revolution. The brewery began in 1984 when Founder and Brewer Jim Koch used a generations-old family recipe to brew beer in his kitchen. Inspired and unafraid to challenge conventional thinking about beer, Jim brought the recipe to life with hopes drinkers would appreciate the complex, full-flavor and started sampling the beer in Boston. He named the flagship brew Samuel Adams Boston Lager in recognition of one of our nation’s founding fathers, a revolutionary man of independent and pioneering spirit. Today, Samuel Adams is one of the world’s most awarded breweries and remains focused on crafting the highest quality beers through innovation and experimentation in the relentless pursuit of better. Samuel Adams remains dedicated to elevating and growing the American craft beer industry overall, including providing education and support for entrepreneurs and fellow brewers through its philanthropic program, Brewing the American Dream, which helps others pursue their American Dream. Our Story
Our passion for never settling, and brewing quality, flavorful beers started with our founder, Jim Koch. He brewed the first batch of Boston Lager in his kitchen – a recipe that belonged to his great great grandfather that he found in his father’s attic back in the early 1980’s.
But, even though we grew, we continue to be an independent craft brewery that’s committed to brewing only the best-crafted beers for our drinkers.
At our Boston Brewery, we’re still trying new things every day; some good, and, well, some not-so good. We learn from the process, and never give up on the journey towards the next tasty beer. It’s our commitment to you that keeps us innovative, inspired, and striving to become better every single day.
