Fresh Hop Ale 2015 is Now Available
When hops are harvested, there is a 48 hour period when they can be used fresh in the brewing process. These fresh hops create a slightly softer bitter than dried hops do, and for the past few years, we’ve been brewing a single batch beer with freshly harvested hops.
For the 2015 version of Fresh Hop Ale, we revisited the single hop Session IPA recipe we enjoyed so much last year. This year, we used a relatively new hop varietal, Equinox, every step of the way.
420 lbs. of fresh Equinox hops were added within 36 hours of being harvested – and within an hour and a half of arriving at the brewery. These hops give the beer a prominent citrus aroma with hints of tropical fruits and subtle herbal notes. The medium-light body of this beer, combined with an aggressive but balanced bitterness, make it a truly enjoyable and drinkable IPA.
Fresh Hop Ale is a draft only release. You can find it now at bars and restaurants around town (and here at the brewery) while it lasts. We recommend enjoying this beer quickly to fully appreciate the hop flavors.

Our Newest Icon Red is American Roggenbier
The next release in our Icon series is an American Roggenbier, our take on a traditional German Roggenbier, which literally translates to "rye beer." The style was once commonly brewed and popular in Bavaria. Our version has a couple of slight twists. 
First, it is hopped like an American Pale Ale with piney, citrusy Cascade and Chinook hops. It also features less rye that its German counterpart – roughly 15% as opposed to the traditional 50% or more. It’s enough rye to make it noticeably spicy without being overbearing. Notes of banana esters and clove phenols from the German weizen yeast complement the spicy character of the rye malt. Icon Red is an unfiltered beer, which is traditional to the style.
