Pelican Brewing is expanding into Yachats, Oregon, marking a major coastal growth milestone for the iconic brewery. This new location strengthens Pelican’s presence along the Oregon Coast and brings a beloved craft beer brand into one of the state’s most scenic small towns.

Pelican Brewing Company, one of the most recognizable names on the Oregon Coast—is officially expanding into Yachats, Oregon, adding a sixth location to its growing lineup of coastal brewpubs. The brewery has purchased the former Whale’s Tail Diner, a building with more than four decades of local history as LeRoy’s Blue Whale, and will transform the space into a new Pelican restaurant and taproom.

This expansion reflects Pelican’s long‑term commitment to investing in Oregon’s coastal communities. According to Pelican president and co‑founder Mary Jones, the team is “delighted to expand our footprint and bring the Pelican experience to more of our coastal neighbors,” emphasizing the brewery’s mission to create gathering spaces that celebrate the spirit of the Pacific Northwest.

A New Chapter for a Beloved Coastal Town
Yachats, often called the “gem of the Oregon Coast” has a population of around 1,000 and a strong tradition of supporting local food and beverage makers. Pelican’s arrival brings new energy to the town’s dining scene and joins WildCraft Cider & Pantry as one of the area’s key craft beverage destinations.

The new Pelican location will not include brewing operations; instead, it will operate as a restaurant and taproom, offering Pelican’s award‑winning beers, zero‑alcohol Sparkle Hops, and craft sodas. Renovations are underway to bring Pelican’s signature coastal‑modern charm to the historic building.

Opening Timeline and Pelican’s Growing Coastal Presence
Pelican Brewing plans to open the Yachats location in the second half of 2026, aligning with the brewery’s 30th anniversary year. The company already operates brewpubs in Pacific City, Cannon Beach, Siletz Bay, a production facility and taproom in Tillamook, and a taproom in Rockaway Beach, making Yachats the latest addition to a strong coastal network.

As renovation plans finalize, Pelican will release more details on menus, design updates, and opening celebrations.

Pelican Brewing Company is a highly decorated, independent craft brewery and restaurant group originally founded in 1996 in Pacific City, Oregon. Known for its “Born at the Beach” philosophy, it operates several coastal locations and has earned over 450 industry awards, including multiple honors at the World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival.

Brewery Locations
As of March 2026, Pelican operates multiple sites along the Oregon coast, with a sixth location slated to open in Yachats in the second half of the year.

Pacific City (Flagship): The original location and the only beachfront brewpub in the Pacific Northwest. It offers views of Haystack Rock and the Cape Kiwanda dunes.

Tillamook: A high-volume production facility and taproom that offers brewery tours and a casual atmosphere for locals.

Cannon Beach: A modern brewpub featuring an open kitchen, vaulted ceilings, and a 10-barrel research and development brewery.

Siletz Bay (Lincoln City): An expansive bayfront location with panoramic sunset views and a specialized seafood market called Phil’s Nest.

Rockaway Beach: A casual taproom located just steps from the sand, opened in late 2025.

Core Beer Lineup
Pelican produces a wide range of year-round and seasonal craft beers, which can be found at their pubs or in stores across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

Kiwanda Cream Ale: A light, crisp flagship ale and one of their most awarded beers.
Beak Breaker Double IPA: A big, bold IPA with strong citrus hop notes.
Tsunami Export Stout: A rich, roasty stout with a dark chocolate and coffee profile.
Sea’N Red: A malty, smooth Irish-style red ale.
Mother of All Storms: A highly coveted, barrel-aged English-style barleywine.
Sparkle Hops: A zero-alcohol, hop-infused sparkling water available in flavors like Strata with Açai

Dining & Experience

The pubs are known for “Beer Cuisine,” which uses beer as an ingredient or pairs it specifically with coastal-inspired dishes.

Signature Dishes: Popular items include dory-caught fish and chips, clam chowder, and the Pelican burger.
Family & Pet Friendly: Most locations offer kids’ menus and dog-friendly outdoor seating.
Reservations: Highly recommended for the Pacific City location, especially during summer weekends when wait times can exceed an hour.

You can find more details on current tap lists and seasonal releases on the official Pelican Brewing website.
