Oskar Blues Brewery’s Biggest Ever Burning Can Beer Festival Coming To North Carolina

The festival cranks up Friday  with live music from Jacksonville, Florida’s JJ Grey & Mofro. Their soulful sound perfectly distills the salty backwoods of the Florida swamp and will set the tone for the whole weekend. JD McPherson will bring his unique brand of nostalgic rock and roll to the REEB Ranch stage on Friday night with a sound that NPR says harnesses "that genre-defying mix that made early rock ‘n’ roll the sexiest thing on the radio." Nashville’s genre-challenging Los Cologneskick things off early to get the crowd in the Burning CAN state of mind.

Visitors whose dancin’ shoes are too worn to get home Friday night can camp out overnight before getting after it early Saturday morning. A group mountain bike and group road bike ride will ensue that morning, organized with Pisgah Cycling and REEB Cycles. Wild Bill will lead a trail run on the REEB Ranch property and there will even be a chance to paddle the French Broad. The REEB Ranch bike park will be open for those who want to get rad on the dual slalom course, the pumptrack, or the skillz area. A yoga session will help you strengthen and stretch your core before tasting over 200 beers from the nation’s best canned craft breweries.

Gettin’ after it makes you thirsty. The main event cracks open Saturday afternoon with more than fifty breweries pouring exclusively from CANs at the region’s sole can-only beer festival. Craft beer from all over the East Coast and beyond will be represented. What’s the deal with cans? Oskar Blues Brewery filled the first can of Dale’s Pale Ale fifteen years ago, igniting the craft can revolution that continues today.

The music continues with Portland, Oregon folk-rock quintet Fruition  taking the Burning CAN stage on Saturday night amidst the craft beer jubilation. With a sound wrought with rootsy strings and tight vocal harmonies, they’ll get the crowd movin’ and groovin’. Described as creating "tropical indie rock" tunes, The Hip Abduction will be taking the stage on Saturday as well (hey, that’s cheaper than a tropical vacay). Saturday’s line-up also features Jon Stickley Trio, Dead 27s, Devon Gilfillian, and The Suitcase Junket.

Kids 12 and under may enter Burning CAN for free but must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets purchased the day of the event will be $10 more per ticket.
