Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Wild Leap Three Harvest Double IPA (Review)

If you flash back to just a week or so ago, you’ll remember that I just sampled my first beer from today’s brewery.  That beer was called Truck Chaser Creamsicle DIPA, and after enjoying that beer so much, I’m really excited to bring you a peek at a new collaboration beer coming from Wild Leap Brew Co in LaGrange, GA.

Today’s beer is called Three Harvest Double IPA, and it is a collaboration with hydroponic hops farm Extreme Hops AL.  I was excited to read that this beer is also a DIPA like Truck Chaser, and as someone who has dabbled in hydroponic gardening, I couldn’t wait to see how that plays into the flavors of the beer.  Three Harvest DIPA is named after the number of harvests that Extreme Hops does each year, and this beer uses their fresh Cascade hops directly off the hop bines.  I should also mention that this beer is the first of several new Extreme Hops collaborations to come, so stay tuned for more.

With hydroponic hops, traditional hop harvesting seasons are a thing of the past, so Wild Leap can produce a fresh-hop beer just about any time of the year…and that time of the year is now (Feb 2020).

Three Harvest Double IPA pours a deep golden orange color with loads of citrus and resinous pine in the aromas.  The beer has an effervescent mouthfeel and many of the classic flavors you’re used to experiencing with Cascade hops.  Three Harvest Double IPA is full of grapefruit and citrus flavors, some slightly sticky pine hops flavors with an overall juice-forward balance that makes the beer really drinkable.

At 8.2%-AbV, Three Harvest certainly has what I would call a tiny but boozy presence, but again you wouldn’t know you were drinking a DIPA unless you read the label (or drank two or three in a row).  Overall the prominent fresh-hop flavors really really lead the way in this beer, and if you enjoy fresh-hop beers (especially in Feb), this one will be right for you.  I really enjoyed Three Harvest DIPA and I can’t wait to see what comes next with these Extreme Hops LA collaborations.
