“A Note from Our Jackass Brewing Family
To our community, friends, and patrons.
We are sharing some devastating news about our co-founder, and my dear friend, Larry Winans. While competing in a local Ironman 70.3, Larry suffered a severe cardiac arrest during the swim. Despite the heroic efforts of first responders and the medical team, we are now facing the heartbreaking reality of saying goodbye to him.
Long before Jackass Brewing Company was a reality, Larry and I were just two friends with a homebrewing hobby. We went from brewing every month, to every few weeks, to dedicating every single weekend to it. Eventually, we realized we had a unique problem: we were making way more beer than the two of us could ever drink. Larry’s solution was simple—start sharing it. When we couldn’t keep up with the demand from our friends, our brewery was born.
We opened our Lewisburg location just five whole days before the state shut down for Covid in March of 2020. It was Larry’s grit, heart, and the incredible community that lined up at our garage doors for growlers that got us through. Because of that foundation, we were able to expand together in 2023, meticulously restoring the old warehouse in Williamsport. Every corner of Jackass Brewing Company has Larry’s fingerprints on it.
As many of you know from updates shared by his wonderful wife, we are now navigating the final, incredibly difficult steps of losing him. Even in his final moments, Larry’s impact on this world remains profound.
We are completely heartbroken. As we mourn the loss of a partner, a brother, and a dear friend, we ask that you keep Larry’s wife and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
We will continue to operate both locations as a tribute to the incredible dream Larry helped build, but we appreciate your immense grace, patience, and understanding as our staff and families grieve.
Thank you for being the community Larry loved so much.
