Harpoon Testing Out Lupulin Powder IPAs

Our brewers recently got their hands on some Lupulin powder and are whipping up some delicious IPA’s on our pilot system (read: you need to get your butt to one of our breweries to try it soon!). So, why are we excited about this new technique and what’s in it for you?

Here’s the scoop – Lupulin is the beautiful little yellow oil pods you see inside a hop cone. It contains all the flavor, aromatics (you open a bag of this stuff and it’s like hop heaven on crack), and it has some bittering potential. Rather than pelletized hops, we’ll be using Lupulin powder during dry hop – putting hops in the beer during or after fermentation. While we love it, dry hopping can be real b sometimes; hops basically act like a sponge, so when you dry hop, a substantial amount of beer gets trapped resulting in lost product (sad times). Essentially Lupulin powder opens some interesting possibilities when it comes to brewing innovations which is great news for beer drinkers and beer brewers alike!
