Captain Lawrence Adding VA Distribution & New 16oz Canning Line

Captain Lawrence treated itself to a nifty Christmas present—a new canning line, ensuring that 16-ounce cans will roll down the line all year long. Scott plans to introduce a new canned brew monthly—typically big, bold takes on the IPA category.

The cans are off to a strong start. Paradise Waits, third in a trilogy of beers inspired by a certain Grateful Dead song, sold out all 50 cases in a flash. While remaining every bit a product of Westchester County, Captain Lawrence is pushing its brand well beyond Elmsford, NY. Captain Lawrence sent its first batch of core beers to the state of Maryland last month, and the stash is “all but gone,” says Scott. A new shipment, including a wider variety of brews, will head down I-95 soon. 

Captain Lawrence also got approval to distribute throughout Virginia, with the first shipment of beer headed out just after Christmas. Representing Captain Lawrence for its DC metro distribution is Brendan Kelleher, formerly of Maryland’s Jailbreak Brewing. “Brendan decided he wanted to sell our beers, and we’re happy to have him on board,” says Scott. 

Scott and the gang tweaked the format just a bit in February, when the Barrel Select Green becomes available. It’s similar to the Barrel Select Gold, but is dry hopped with El Dorado hops—whole-leaf hops to boot—for a citrusy, even lemony character. The Green is an unfiltered brew, bringing more of its yeasty character to the fore.

“It’s a mildly sour sour ale, low in acidity but full of complex flavors,” says Scott.

Also coming in February is our Hopsomniac Cold Brew Coffe IPA. Originally brewed for Whole Foods Market a few years back, this beer is a classic American IPA, brewed using the finest North West hops, dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic and infused with Cold Brew Coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters in Brooklyn, NY. The result is a full flavored IPA with notes of citrus and a subdued roast. This one is only being sold in kegs so look for it at your favorite watering hole!
