Avery Resurrects Mephistopheles’ Stout

Boulder, CO . — September 19, 2019-–– Avery Brewing Company, a pioneering craft brewery in Boulder for 27 years, announces the much anticipated re-release of Mephistopheles’ Stout, a beloved member of Avery’s Demons of Ale series.

Avery first summoned Mephistopheles into existence in 2005. The brewers use a Westmalle Belgian yeast strain for both its characteristic complex layers of esters and phenols, and its resilient performance in high gravity brews. To manifest this dark and rich beer, the brewers incorporate roasted and black malts, specialty malts, and Belgian malts. The result is a massive stout weighing in at around 15% ABV, with notes of vine-ripened grapes, anise, bitter chocolate, and an espresso-like finish. Mephistopheles’ Stout is a testament to the Avery team’s advanced brewing abilities.

“This has got to be one of the most complex dessert stouts out there,” says Adam Avery, the brewery’s president and CEO. “I wanted to bring it back for Meph’s biggest fans as a Halloween treat!”

Mephistopheles returns to his evil duties on earth for a limited time this fall. In early October, just in time for The Great American Beer Fest, this Avery fan favorite will be available in select liquor stores and in the Avery Tap Room.
