Calypso Juicy Pale Ale is the Latest Seasonal to Blossom at Ground Breaker

Calypso Juicy Pale Ale is the latest release from the Portland, Oregon-based gluten-free craft brewery. Calypso marks the return of the juicy pale ale to their seasonal lineup and clocks in at 5.1% ABV. Brewed with flaked quinoa, rice malt, and millet malt with a double dry hopping. zzubreebym

“We’ve been looking forward to putting out something bright and juicy as spring transitions to summer,” said Founder, James Neumeister. “Calypso is a bit of a spiritual successor to Mellow Meridian, our last juicy pale ale release.”

Ground Breaker used three hundred pounds of flaked quinoa in the recipe to give the beer a pillowy mouthfeel. The beer also focuses on some specialty hops the brewery has been diving into. “We’ve been bringing in a lot of unique hops for some pipe dream projects,” said Head Brewer, Tyler Kueber. “Calypso ended up being the beer that we really started utilizing these specialty hops. It features hops that were grown and developed in 4 different countries that come together to form a distinctive and delightful experience.”

While the brewery is proud of the beer itself, the artwork is another point of pride for this release. James drew inspiration for the idea through one of his many visits to the Columbia River Gorge. Working with Peggy Pfenninger of P-Town Prints + Designs! and Georgia-based artist, Lindsey Hopkins, James was able to make his vision a reality. Graduates of Savannah College of Art & Design (though graduating years apart), Peggy and Lindsey met on Instagram while participating in The 100 Day Project during the first year of the pandemic.

Calypso is available at the Ground Breaker tasting room located at 2030 SE 7th Ave. Portland, Oregon. It will soon be available in Ground Breaker Brewing’s distributed territories.
