New Trail Frosted Pines Hazy Double IPA

New Trail Brewing Co. is bringing a winter-inspired look and a big hop profile to its latest beer, Frosted Pines Hazy Double IPA, a new 8.5% ABV release from the Williamsport, Pennsylvania, brewery. The can artwork features snow-covered mountains, evergreen trees, falling snow and the New Trail Brewing logo, giving this hazy double IPA a cold-weather identity before the can is even opened.

But there is more going on here than seasonal artwork.

Frosted Pines Hazy Double IPA combines Amarillo, Simcoe, Centennial and Talus hops with a grain bill featuring oats, red wheat and white wheat. That combination puts the focus on a hazy, wheat-supported IPA with several hop varieties contributing to its overall character. New Trail lists orange zest and its own description, “Dynamic Dankness,” among the beer’s tasting notes, offering a glimpse of the citrus and deeper hop character behind this new release.

That’s a promising combination.

The hop selection gives Frosted Pines plenty to work with. Amarillo is commonly associated with orange and other citrus notes, while Centennial can bring citrus and floral characteristics. Simcoe is known for its mix of pine, citrus and earthy qualities, and Talus can contribute grapefruit, citrus peel and other complex hop aromas. The exact balance in the finished beer will depend on how New Trail uses each variety during brewing, but the lineup suggests a beer designed to bring several sides of American hop character together.

For drinkers who enjoy hazy double IPAs, the grain bill is worth a closer look, too. Oats and wheat are frequently used in hazy IPA recipes to support body and texture, while helping create the soft, cloudy appearance that has become familiar in the style. Red wheat and white wheat bring different brewing characteristics, and their contribution will depend on the proportions used in the recipe.

Then there is the alcohol content. At 8.5% ABV, Frosted Pines sits firmly in double IPA territory, making it a stronger offering than a typical 5% or 6% pale ale. That does not automatically mean the beer will taste heavy or overly bitter, since hop timing, fermentation and the balance between malt sweetness and bitterness all shape the final result. Still, this is a beer worth approaching as a full-strength double IPA rather than an easy-drinking session beer.

The name Frosted Pines fits the artwork, although the listed tasting notes point toward orange zest and dank hop character rather than a specific pine-flavored ingredient. There is no indication on the label that the beer contains actual pine, spruce or other tree-derived additions. Instead, the pine imagery appears to be part of the beer’s visual identity, while the hop bill provides the ingredients responsible for its flavor and aroma.

A sharp-looking can helps, of course. The muted green palette, vintage-style lettering and detailed winter forest give Frosted Pines a distinctive presentation that stands apart from the bright tropical colors often used for hazy IPAs. It looks like a winter beer without relying on the usual dark-malt or holiday-spice approach.

New Trail Brewing has built its identity around Pennsylvania beer drinkers and a broad range of craft beer styles, and Frosted Pines gives hop fans another release to watch. The combination of four hop varieties, a wheat-and-oat grain bill and an 8.5% ABV specification makes this a notable addition to the brewery’s hazy IPA lineup.

Frosted Pines is packaged in 16-ounce cans. New Trail Brewing has not provided a confirmed release date or distribution details in the supplied information, so those details remain to be announced.

For now, the label tells us what we need to know about the recipe’s direction. A hazy double IPA, four American hop varieties, a strong alcohol content and a winter forest wrapped around the can. Frosted Pines has arrived on the radar. Now we wait to see when Pennsylvania beer drinkers can get their hands on it.

New Trail Brewing Co. is an independent craft brewery based in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where the outdoors, local scenery and a passion for well-made beer come together. Founded in January 2018, the brewery set out to create a varied portfolio of craft beer inspired by the natural beauty of north-central Pennsylvania. From hazy IPAs and hop-forward double IPAs to traditional lagers, pilsners, amber ales and stouts, New Trail Brewing has developed a lineup that appeals to drinkers looking for both familiar styles and new releases.

The brewery’s location is an important part of its identity. North-central Pennsylvania offers miles of wooded trails, waterways, mountains and outdoor recreation opportunities, and New Trail draws on that setting throughout its branding and beer names. Its approach connects craft beer with the experiences that happen outside the taproom, whether that means spending an afternoon hiking, taking a bike ride, paddling a river or meeting friends after a day exploring the region.

New Trail Brewing’s beginnings

New Trail Brewing was founded in January 2018, with a goal of producing a balanced selection of beers rather than focusing on a single style. The brewery began sending canned beer to market in April 2018, the same month its tasting room opened. White Ale was the first beer brewed on its system, followed by early releases including Trail Ale, Lazy River Pils, SOB Hill American IPA and Broken Heels Hazy IPA.

Broken Heels would become one of the brewery’s signature beers. The name refers to an incident involving one of the brewery’s founders, who broke both heels shortly before construction began. Despite the injury, he continued directing the brewery project from a wheelchair until he recovered. The story captures the determined, slightly unconventional personality behind the brand.

As the brewery grew, its lineup expanded to include more hop-forward beers, stronger IPAs and seasonal offerings. Double Broken Heels built on the original hazy IPA with a fuller-bodied, higher-alcohol version, helping establish New Trail as a destination for Pennsylvania drinkers interested in modern American hop styles.

A focus on hazy IPAs and hop-forward beer

Hazy IPAs are an important part of New Trail Brewing’s portfolio. These beers often combine expressive hop aromas with a softer mouthfeel and a cloudy appearance, using carefully selected hop varieties and grains such as oats and wheat to develop their character.

New Trail’s beers explore a range of hop profiles, from citrus and tropical fruit to pine, floral notes and deeper resinous characteristics. Releases such as Broken Heels and Double Broken Heels demonstrate the brewery’s interest in aromatic, full-flavored IPAs, while beers such as Trail Marker offer another interpretation of American hop character through a clearer West Coast-style approach.

New releases keep that lineup moving. Frosted Pines Hazy Double IPA, for example, combines Amarillo, Simcoe, Centennial and Talus hops with oats, red wheat and white wheat. At 8.5% ABV, it brings together the stronger alcohol content associated with double IPAs and a winter-inspired presentation. Its listed notes of orange zest and dynamic dankness reflect the kind of layered hop character that attracts fans of modern American IPA.

Pennsylvania beer and outdoor inspiration

New Trail Brewing’s identity extends beyond individual beer recipes. The brewery has also connected its work with Pennsylvania’s outdoor resources through its State Park Series, developed in partnership with the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation. The initiative highlights state parks and forests while supporting awareness of the natural places that make the region distinctive.

That connection between beer and the outdoors gives New Trail a recognizable identity in Pennsylvania’s crowded craft beer market. Its packaging, beer names and brewery story consistently return to trails, forests, mountains and outdoor experiences.

Visiting New Trail Brewing

The New Trail Brewing tasting room is located at 240 Arch Street, Building 18, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Visitors can enjoy beers poured directly at the brewery, explore rotating selections and experience the welcoming taproom atmosphere. The brewery also offers a selection of Pennsylvania wines and locally inspired cocktails, with food options that vary.

For the latest beer releases, tasting room information, brewery news and official details about available beers, visit the New Trail Brewing Co. official website.

New Trail Brewing continues to build its reputation through a broad range of craft beer styles, a strong connection to north-central Pennsylvania and a steady stream of releases for local beer drinkers. Whether the preference is a crisp lager, a balanced American IPA or a bold hazy double IPA, the brewery offers plenty to explore.
