Label Text Sierra Nevada Mole Stout:

This Mole Stout pays homage to the flavors of Mexico, where tales of the chupacabra have long haunted sleep. Our Stout starts dark and bittersweet thanks to roasted chocolate malt, but a deep slumber on Mexican chili peppers awakens the beast within. Rich and complex, flowing with pepper heat, Mole Stout is the stuff of dreams… or nightmares.

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is one of the most recognized names in American craft brewing, with a history rooted in independent brewing, innovation and a commitment to producing distinctive beers. Founded in 1980 by Ken Grossman in Chico, California, Sierra Nevada helped shape the American craft beer movement through its focus on flavorful beers, brewing experimentation and dedication to quality.

The brewery began with a vision of creating beers that offered an alternative to the mass-produced lagers that dominated the American beer market. Its early success was driven in large part by Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, a beer that became an influential example of American-style pale ale and helped introduce generations of drinkers to hop-forward craft beer. The brewery’s approach to brewing, emphasizing flavor, aroma and ingredient character, established a foundation for its continued development.

Over the decades, Sierra Nevada has expanded its portfolio to include a broad range of craft beer styles, from approachable lagers and refreshing pale ales to powerful IPAs, rich stouts, seasonal specialties and experimental barrel-aged beers. Its lineup reflects an ongoing interest in exploring different ingredients, brewing methods and flavor combinations while maintaining its established brewing identity.

Sierra Nevada operates major brewing facilities in Chico, California, and Mills River, North Carolina. The Mills River brewery, which opened in 2014, expanded the company’s production capabilities and allowed it to serve a wider geographic market. Both locations contribute to the brewery’s production of year-round offerings, seasonal beers and specialty releases.

Innovation is an important part of Sierra Nevada’s brewing philosophy. Specialty collections such as the Trip in the Woods Series give the brewery an opportunity to explore distinctive brewing concepts, unusual ingredients and barrel-aging techniques. These beers allow Sierra Nevada to move beyond traditional beer styles and develop releases inspired by culinary traditions, ingredients and experimental approaches to brewing.

The Trip in the Woods Series is particularly relevant to enthusiasts interested in barrel-aged craft beer, including imperial stouts, strong ales and other specialty releases. By exploring different flavor inspirations and aging approaches, the series offers opportunities for the brewery to showcase creative brewing while appealing to collectors and adventurous craft beer drinkers.

Sustainability has also been an important part of Sierra Nevada’s operations. The company has invested in renewable energy, resource conservation, water management and other environmental initiatives intended to reduce the environmental impact of large-scale brewing. These efforts reflect the brewery’s broader interest in responsible production and long-term environmental stewardship.

Beyond its brewing operations, Sierra Nevada has developed a reputation as a destination for craft beer enthusiasts. Its Chico brewery and Mills River location provide opportunities for visitors to experience the company’s beers, brewing heritage and hospitality.

From its pioneering Pale Ale to innovative specialty releases such as Barrel-Aged Mole Stout, Sierra Nevada continues to explore the possibilities of American craft brewing. Its combination of brewing history, diverse beer styles and experimentation has made it a longstanding presence in the American craft beer industry.
