Athletic Brewing Get Mossy REI Collaboration Cans
Athletic Brewing Get Mossy REI Collaboration
Athletic Brewing is heading outdoors with a new beer collaboration that looks like it was made for hiking trails, camping weekends and anyone who enjoys a cold beer after spending the day outside. This time, the Connecticut and California-based non-alcoholic brewing company is teaming up with REI Co-op for something called Athletic Brewing Get Mossy.
And I have the first look at the 12-ounce cans.
Athletic Brewing Get Mossy is being introduced as a Kölsch-style non-alcoholic brew, bringing together two brands that have built their identities around outdoor recreation, adventure and getting people away from their everyday routines. Athletic Brewing has become one of the biggest names in the non-alcoholic beer business, while REI has spent decades connecting its members with outdoor equipment, travel and recreational experiences.
This collaboration makes a lot of sense.
The new Athletic Brewing Get Mossy beer is listed at less than 0.5% ABV, making it another addition to the brewery’s growing collection of non-alcoholic craft beers. The 12-ounce cans also come in at just 60 calories and 14 grams of carbohydrates per serving, giving consumers another lighter option when they want something beer-inspired without a traditional alcoholic beer.
But the interesting part here is the style and the flavor description.
According to the Athletic Brewing Get Mossy can artwork, this Kölsch-style brew blends soft malt sweetness with Pacific Northwest hop aromas of grapefruit, citrus and pine. The label describes the finish as crisp and clean, which sounds like a pretty natural fit for a beer carrying the REI name and an outdoor-inspired identity.
Kölsch is traditionally associated with Cologne, Germany, where the style is known for its pale appearance, relatively light body, restrained malt character and refreshing finish. Athletic Brewing is putting its own non-alcoholic spin on that general beer profile, adding a hop character that should give Athletic Brewing Get Mossy a little more personality than a basic light beer.
A different kind of trail companion.
The packaging is also worth a closer look. Athletic Brewing has gone with an illustrated forest scene featuring towering orange-brown trees, evergreen foliage, a winding trail and a bear walking through the woods. The center of the can features the large Athletic Brewing Get Mossy name, with the Athletic Brewing and REI Co-op logos positioned above it.
It is a good-looking collaboration can, and the artwork immediately communicates what the beer is supposed to represent. This isn’t a generic non-alcoholic beer with a different logo slapped onto the front. The packaging has a clear outdoor identity, and the REI partnership is built directly into the presentation.
The back of the can takes that idea a little further, describing Athletic Brewing Get Mossy as a beer created for nature enthusiasts, curious wanderers and people who feel most at home outdoors.
The label even includes a little reminder about taking the long way around, getting some dirt on your shoes and staying outside a little longer. That’s a pretty good message for a beer collaboration between an outdoor retailer and a brewery that has made non-alcoholic beer its specialty.
Athletic Brewing has continued to expand its partnerships beyond traditional beer collaborations, working with organizations, sports teams, entertainment brands and companies that reach consumers outside the normal craft beer audience. Recent projects have included its partnerships with Vans Warped Tour, the Premier Lacrosse League and Graza.
The REI Co-op partnership is another interesting direction because it connects non-alcoholic beer with outdoor recreation rather than nightlife or traditional drinking occasions.
And that is an audience Athletic Brewing clearly understands.
The non-alcoholic beer category has changed considerably over the last several years. Consumers are looking for more choices, better flavor and different beer styles, and breweries are responding with everything from non-alcoholic IPAs and pilsners to stouts, seasonal releases and specialty collaborations.
Athletic Brewing Get Mossy gives Athletic another style to put in front of those drinkers.
For now, the information available on the 12-ounce can confirms the Kölsch-style description, less than 0.5% ABV, 60 calories and 14 grams of carbohydrates. The ingredient statement lists water, malted barley, wheat, hops and yeast.
I don’t have confirmed retail pricing, an exact release date or a complete distribution list yet, so those details will have to wait. It will be interesting to see whether Athletic Brewing Get Mossy becomes a limited collaboration or receives a wider retail rollout through Athletic Brewing and REI.
Either way, this is a fun addition to the Athletic Brewing lineup, and the combination of a refreshing beer style, low calorie count and outdoor-focused packaging gives this collaboration a pretty clear identity.
Sometimes the best part of the day is getting outside.
And having a cold Athletic Brewing Get Mossy afterward.

About Athletic Brewing Company
Athletic Brewing Company has become one of the most recognizable names in the American non-alcoholic beer business, building an entire brewing operation around the idea that consumers should not have to give up the flavor, variety and experience of craft beer when they decide to drink less alcohol.
Founded by Bill Shufelt and John Walker, Athletic Brewing officially launched commercially in 2018 and helped push non-alcoholic craft beer into a much more visible position within the American beer industry. What started as an effort to make better-tasting non-alcoholic beer has grown into a substantial brewing operation with facilities in Milford, Connecticut, and San Diego, California.
The company’s approach is different from that of traditional breweries that might produce one or two non-alcoholic offerings alongside their regular alcoholic beer lineup. Athletic Brewing has made non-alcoholic beer its entire business, developing a broad portfolio of styles designed to appeal to consumers who want the taste of beer without the alcohol.
That distinction has helped the company establish a strong position in a category that has attracted increasing attention from beer drinkers, retailers and major beverage companies.
Athletic Brewing’s lineup includes several recognizable beers. Run Wild IPA is one of its best-known offerings, delivering a hop-forward beer experience for people who enjoy American-style IPAs. Upside Dawn is a golden-style brew designed around a lighter, refreshing profile, while Free Wave provides another hop-focused option for consumers looking for something with more character.
The brewery also produces Athletic Lite, Atlética, dark beers, seasonal offerings, experimental releases and a rotating collection of limited-edition collaborations.
Its brewing philosophy centers on producing flavorful beer while keeping alcohol content below 0.5% ABV. That requires a different approach to brewing and product development than simply taking a traditional beer and removing its alcohol after fermentation. Athletic has invested heavily in developing its brewing processes, experimenting with ingredients, fermentation techniques and recipes to create beers that deliver the aroma, body and flavor consumers expect.
The company has also been active in developing relationships outside the traditional craft beer industry.
Athletic Brewing has partnered with sports organizations, entertainment brands, food companies and other businesses to introduce non-alcoholic beer to different audiences. These collaborations help demonstrate that non-alcoholic beer can fit into a wide range of occasions, from sporting events and concerts to outdoor adventures and everyday social gatherings.
Its partnership with REI Co-op for Get Mossy is a particularly interesting example. REI has a long history of serving outdoor enthusiasts through its retail stores, membership program, outdoor equipment and recreational activities. Combining that identity with Athletic Brewing’s non-alcoholic beer expertise creates an opportunity to reach people who enjoy hiking, camping, cycling and spending time outside.
Athletic Brewing also has an environmental component to its business through its Two For The Trails initiative. The program supports the protection and restoration of outdoor spaces, with the company committing funding toward conservation and access to outdoor recreation.
That connection makes the Get Mossy collaboration feel like a natural extension of the brewery’s existing interests rather than just another promotional can.
Distribution has been another major part of Athletic Brewing’s growth. Its products are available through retail stores, restaurants, bars, sporting venues and the company’s own online store, giving consumers several ways to find its non-alcoholic beers. The company also operates a store locator to help customers identify nearby locations carrying its products.
As the non-alcoholic beer category continues to develop, Athletic Brewing remains one of the companies helping drive the conversation. Its continued investment in new recipes, specialty releases and brand collaborations demonstrates that there is plenty of room for innovation in beer without traditional alcohol content.
From familiar styles like IPA and golden ale to more unusual offerings such as collaborative Kölsch-style brews, Athletic continues to expand the choices available to modern beer drinkers.
