Dominion Brewing – Cherry Blossom Lager, Morning Glory & Double D DIPA Sampling

Dominion Brewing was nice enough to send me some samples of some of their new and existing brews to try out, and what better night than a Saturday to sit down and enjoy them.

We decided to start with the new Cherry Blossom Lager.  This beer just screams “summer” and the flavors are brite and really drinkable.  Dominion uses over 300 pounds of Michigan Cherries for conditioning of this beer, and it worked out really nicely.  The beer is effervescent and almost champagne-like in it’s mouthfeel.  The cherries don’t dominate, and the beer ends up being really easy to drink with a nice sweet/dry balance that makes you want more.  Can’t wait for the release of this one at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC.

Next up we sampled Double D DIPA.  This beer is moving from 22oz bottles and going year-round in six packs.  Double D DIPA is a classic Double IPA with a big dose of Citra hops up front followed by a subtle citrus-fruit flavor and even some boozy flavors at the end.  At 9% ABV and 90 IBU it’s no surprise this beer will get your attention and keep it.  I’m a huge fan of DIPA’s so this one was right up my alley. 

Finally we sampled Morning Glory.  This beer is also heading from 22oz bottles to 12oz bottles and six packs, and with good reason.  Morning Glory is an Espresso Stout and if you’re a coffee lover, this one will call your name.  The coffee flavors come from locally roasted beans, and the big 9% ABV ABV comes from the chocolate, crystal, smoked and wheat malts.  This beer has lots of dry coffee on the tongue and nose and yes I did taste even a bit of chocolate.  Look for a big mouthfeel on this one, and a big flavor to back it up.  I think this beer may benefit most from the move to 12oz bottles.

Be sure to try all three of these beer When you get a chance.  For my money the Cherry Blossom if perfect for summer drinking, the Double D is a hop-lovers beer and the Morning Glory will be perfect for the coffee & dry stout lovers.  Cheers to everyone at Dominion Brewing and thanks for the sampling.
