Anheuser-Busch Millions of Barrels, One Consistent Beer Profile

We want all of our customers to trust that when they buy one of our beers it will have the great taste they expect. Which is why every day, around the country, our brewmasters gather at 3:00 p.m. to evaluate the day’s finished brews, plus the water and wort along the way. This daily, committed time and attention reflects the great care we take to assess every part of the beer we’re making to ensure it meets our quality standards and ultimately our customers’ expectations.

Regardless of the beer style you prefer, everyone can agree quality and consistency are paramount. We’re excited to shed some light on how we do things by bringing Anheuser-Busch’s 3PM Tasting to this year’s Beer Bloggers & Writers Conference. Attendees will have the opportunity to see firsthand the process and rigorous testing behind our beer, as well as sample all aspects of the brewing process and learn how to better detect off flavors in the beers.

Why is the 3PM Tasting important? It all goes back to the integrity of each beer and making sure that every beer that leaves an Anheuser-Busch brewery maintains the quality and consistency we obsess over.

It’s more than just a process to us; it’s a blend of art and science. It’s also about selecting the right ingredients. From seed to sip, we’re focused on every aspect of the beer development process – working with growers across the country to cultivate the right barley and hops for our beers, assessing the water and sanitation aspects and thinking through the temperature schedules.

We know how much the conference attendees value good beer and we’re thrilled to be part of an event where we can be involved in conversations about ingredients and beer development, so we can all share and learn from one another. Dave Maxwell oversees brewing across Anheuser-Busch’s North America breweries. With years of experience as a “3 p.m. key taster,” Maxwell serves on Anheuser-Busch’s U.S. Taste Panel that evaluates and scores Budweiser, and other brands, across the beer company’s U.S. breweries. He has spent more than 20 years as a brewmaster at the company’s two largest breweries, St. Louis and Houston.
