21st Amendment Marooned on Hog Island

————Chapter One————

After too many fortnights aboard Sir Francis Drake’s galleon exploring the coasts of northern California, deck swabs O’Sullivan and Freccia were growing restless. The work was tedious, food was scarce and worst of all, the beer was weak. Captain Drake might have their heads on a platter, but they had to abandon ship.

———–Chapter Two————

Freccia leapt into the Pacific with a few essentials: a musket, a blade, a cigar cutter, and a bottle of cocktail sauce. O’Sullivan rolled a few casks of the Captain’s finest dark ale overboard and belly flopped in behind them. Draped over the barrels, the swabbies bobbed through the waves. 

————Chapter Three————

At last they washed up on a tiny island in Tomales Bay. They were greeted by two weathered locals named John and Terry, who raised some of the sweetest, juiciest oysters you ever ate but otherwise subsisted on rainwater and the occasional wild hog if they were lucky enough to catch one. 

————Chapter Four————

With the help of a couple of ducats of lead shot, these beer mutineers and oyster mercenaries were soon straddling a roaring fire and feasting on roast pig, freshly shucked oysters and goblets of fine ale. They could think of worse fates than being Marooned on Hog Island.

————The Moral of the Story————

When life gives you oysters, be sure to brew some killer oyster stout.

That’s exactly what Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan, co-founders of 21^st Amendment Brewery did. In a food+beer collaboration with Hog Island Oyster Company co-founders, John Finger and Terry Sawyer, the 21^st Amendment Brewery team has created Marooned on Hog Island,the latest beer in their Insurrection Series, a limited edition, once-in-awhile four-pack release of a very special beer that rises up in revolt against common notions of what canned beer can be.

Marooned on Hog Island has an ABV of 7.9% and was brewed using Magnum and Willamette hops with an ale yeast, a variety of malts including Pale, Crystal, Chocolate and Carafa, Rolled Oats, White Wheat and the kicker: 450 pounds of Hog Island Sweetwater oyster shells.

To fully appreciate the story of Marooned on Hog Island, one must view the four-pack carrier and can art. Designed by tbd, 21^stAmendment’s agency, the carrier brings alive the tale of this fearless beer collaboration. Each panel of the carrier tells a chapter of the story sequentially through words and illustrations, replete with muskets, sharks, beer barrels and soggy escape artists. The top of the carrier depicts a bird’s eye view of Hog Island while the bottom of the carrier provides more of a fish’s eye view.

In celebration of their joint creation Hog Island Oyster Co. and21^st Amendment Brewery are holding a series of Release Parties. Guests, and the public, are invited to shuck, slurp, and swill with the brew masters and oyster mercenaries till the stout runs dry.
