Monday 14 August 2023, California, USA:  The 2023 Bugatti Baby II, a one-of-one, 75% scale electric reimagination of the famous Bugatti Type 35, will be sold at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auctions, which take place August 18 and 19 amidst Pebble Beach Automotive Week.

Hand-built by The Little Car Company’s team of engineers at their UK headquarters in Oxfordshire, the Baby II has been developed using a 3D scan of the original 1924 Grand Prix car, and the aluminium bodywork is hand-formed to offer true authenticity to the original. Powered by an electric motor, the Baby II provides a modern twist on an unforgettable classic.

The 2023 Bugatti Baby II that will be up for auction at Pebble Beach is a one-of-a-kind, specially curated example of the scaled classic. Finished in a wonderful Gunpowder Black paint combination, with a striking gold-plated radiator and headlights, this one-of-one is a truly unique collectible for Bugatti devotees, featuring hand-painted numbering to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. Adorned with a genuine, solid silver Bugatti Macaron badge, the 2023 Bugatti Baby II symbolises and embodies the exclusivity, luxury and craftsmanship that has stood for over 110 years.

Together, The Little Car Company and Bugatti have ensured the Bugatti Baby II is true to its predecessor, with identical suspension and geometry providing authentic handling. This authenticity translates into the cockpit as well, with the turned aluminium dashboard reflecting that of the original Type 35.
The Bugatti Baby II is available in three versions: Base, Vitesse and Pur Sang. This particular 2023 example is a Vitesse, which features stunning, lightweight carbon fibre bodywork and significant performance boosts. A high-performance powertrain provides 60% more power than the base model, while a long-range 2.8 kWh battery pack offers a 50% increase in range.

Modern adaptations have also been implemented, such as the fuel pressure gauge transformed into a battery gauge, and in a nod to the Bugatti Veyron, the oil gauge has transitioned into a power gauge. The adjustable pedals are machined from solid aluminium billet and display the famous ‘EB’ logo, while the fuel pump has been reproduced, but now serves as the forward, neutral and reverse selector.

Ben Hedley, CEO of The Little Car Company, said: “All of us here at The Little Car Company are honoured and hugely excited to support Pebble Beach Concours charities with the sale of this one-of-a-kind 2023 Bugatti Baby II at the Pebble Beach Auctions presented by Gooding & Company. Our scaled, reimagining of the legendary Type 35 pays homage to one of Bugatti’s most important cars, while providing an invigorating modern twist that has captured the attention of both Bugatti and automotive aficionados all over the world.

“This particular example has been specified like no other, and we’re delighted to offer this Bugatti Baby II for auction, and to see the consignor’s proceeds going towards a very worthy cause, the Pebble Beach Company Foundation, the charitable partner of the Concours.”

David Gooding, President and Founder of Gooding & Company, said: “We are excited to auction off this creative, unique conceptualization of the iconic Bugatti Type 35, constructed with masterful craftsmanship by The Little Car Company. We are always honored to present lots for charity at Gooding & Company events, and look forward to selling this innovative 2023 Bugatti Baby II, with its sale proceeds no doubt making a great contribution to the esteemed Pebble Beach Company Foundation.”

Sandra Button, Chairman of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, said: “We are grateful for partners that provide unique ways for people to help support our Concours charities, as with the sale of this Bugatti Baby II created by The Little Car Company and being offered through Gooding & Company,” said Concours Chairman Sandra Button. “The connection to Bugatti is important; no marque has won our top award more than Bugatti. That macaron badge truly symbolizes excellence.”

The Pebble Beach Auctions will take place at 5pm on Friday 18th August, and 11am on Saturday 19th August, just prior to the Sunday 20th August Pebble Beach Parc du Concours in California. The 2023 Bugatti Baby II (Lot 138) is to be sold without reserve (estimated between US$100,000 – US$120,000) on Saturday 19th August, with any profits from the sale to be donated to the Pebble Beach Company Foundation.
