Under the Stars Concert Series 2023

Lounge and Listen to Top Performers in Cheekwood’s Lush Gardens
during this Five-night Summertime Concert Series

NASHVILLE, TN . – The Under the Stars concert series returns this summer, offering the unforgettable opportunity to enjoy the sounds of music’s most in-demand performers and players from across the nation, under the night sky at Cheekwood Estate & Botanical Gardens. Over five spectacular evenings music fills the air at Cheekwood while food trucks prepare mouthwatering bites and vendors offer wines by the bottle, local brews, craft cocktails, and more. The music lineup is as diverse as it is rich: Jazz, Bluegrass, and Songwriters nights beckon, promising something for everyone.

“Under the Stars is a one-of-a-kind Music City experience and we are so excited to welcome such a stellar lineup of top players, writers, and singers to Cheekwood,” says Director of Music and Public Programs Mark Mason. “The Under the Stars concert series is already earning its reputation as the quintessential open-air Nashville summer concert series with music, food and drinks, offering something for everyone to enjoy.”

Jazz Under the Stars | July 21

Jazz Under the Stars is headlined by the acclaimed Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio and features an opening performance by the 18-piece Nashville Jazz Orchestra’s Big Band.

Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio—or as it is sometimes referred to, DLO3—specialize in the lost art of “feel good music.” It’s a soul-jazz concoction that goes straight to your heart and head makes your body break out in a sweat. Live, the band’s fiery and intuitive chemistry is unstoppable, brimming with improvisation, instant composition, imaginative takes on classic tunes, and a booty-shaking back catalog of soulful gems.

A celebration of soul, jazz, and R&B music. Jazz Under the Stars is presented in partnership with WFSK-Jazzy 88.

Songwriters Under the Stars | August 25, 26, 27

Experience top Nashville hitmakers and musicians in a one-of-a-kind setting. Nestled on Swan Lawn, the concert features chart-toppers Jon Nite, Josh Osborne and Chris DeStefano sharing songs and stories, accompanied by the renowned Music City Symphony.

Jon Nite is a CMA and ACM award winning singer/songwriter who has written over a dozen top ten country hits.  Jon’s songs have been recorded by stars like Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Phillip Phillips, Darius Rucker, and more.

Grammy award winning songwriter Josh Osborne has become one of the go-to songwriters on the Nashville music scene. After scoring his first number one song in 2012 with Kenny Chesney’s “Come Over”, Osborne has been on quite an amazing roll with songs like “Drunk Last Night” by Eli Young Band, “My Eyes” and “Sangria” by Blake Shelton, “Leave The Night On” and CMA Nominated Song of the Year “Take Your Time” for top new artist Sam Hunt.

Chris DeStefano is one of Nashville’s most successful contemporary songwriters, having co-penned No. 1 country hits for acts including Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood.

Bluegrass Under the Stars | September 8

Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway headline the second installment of Bluegrass Under the Stars. A recent Grammy-winning songwriter, vocalist and musician of formidable skill, Molly Tuttle is a multi-instrumentalist whose especially potent guitar playing made her the first woman to ever win Guitarist of the Year from the International Bluegrass Music Association. Instead of relying solely on her sheer virtuosity, Tuttle incorporates heart and masterful storytelling to create some of roots music’s most compelling contemporary songs.

Arrive early to catch a special opening performance by AJ Lee & Blue Summit. Drawing from influences such as country, soul, swing, rock, and jam music AJLBS uses the lens of bluegrass as a vessel through which to express and explore the thread that binds and unifies all great music.

About Cheekwood

With its intact and picturesque vistas, Cheekwood is distinguished as one of the leading Country Place Era estates in the nation. Formerly the family home of Mabel and Leslie Cheek, the 1930s estate, with its 30,000-square-foot Mansion and 55-acres of gardens, today serves the public as a botanical garden, arboretum, and art museum with furnished period rooms and galleries devoted to American art from the 18th to mid-20th centuries. The property includes 13 distinct gardens including the Blevins Japanese Garden and the Bracken Foundation Children’s Garden, as well as a 1.5-mile woodland trail featuring outdoor monumental sculpture. Each year, Cheekwood hosts seasonal festivals including Cheekwood in Bloom, Summertime at Cheekwood, Cheekwood Harvest and Holiday LIGHTS. Cheekwood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and nationally as a Level II Arboretum. It is a three-time voted USA Today Top 10 Botanical Garden and in 2021 was recognized by Fodors as one of the 12 Most Beautiful Gardens in the American South. Cheekwood is located eight miles southwest of downtown Nashville at 1200 Forrest Park Drive. It is open Tuesday through Sunday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., with extended days and hours of operation depending on the season. Visit cheekwood.org for current hours and to purchase advance tickets required for admission.
