Sierra Nevada National Parks Series Coming To 19.2-oz Cans
Sierra Nevada National Parks Series
The new Sierra Nevada National Parks Series is getting bigger, and the packaging is getting bigger with it. Sierra Nevada Brewing is moving the series into 19.2-oz cans, and the first new design I have is for Redwood National Park, with the returning Great Smoky Mountains National Park design also moving into the larger format.
That is a pretty straightforward change, but it gives the National Parks Series a noticeably different look on the shelf. The new Redwood National Park can keeps the familiar Sierra Nevada Pale Ale identity while putting a huge redwood illustration front and center. It is hard to miss. The artwork has the old-school national park poster feel that fits this project extremely well, with towering trees, green forest, bright sky and the classic Sierra Nevada banner worked into the design.
The beer itself is not changing. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale remains 5.6% ABV, keeping the National Parks Series tied directly to the familiar flagship beer that has been part of Sierra Nevada’s story for decades. What changes here is the package, the featured park and the size of the can.
This is also a new park for the series. Redwood National Park joins the growing collection of Sierra Nevada National Parks Series releases, while Great Smoky Mountains National Park returns. Sierra Nevada has already used the National Parks Series to spotlight some of America’s best-known national parks, creating limited packaging that works as both beer packaging and a little piece of outdoor artwork.
The Redwood National Park design is especially fitting for Sierra Nevada. The label artwork shows enormous redwood trees rising above the forest floor, surrounded by dense greenery and a bright blue California sky. The imagery immediately tells you what the beer is about without needing much explanation. National park. Giant trees. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.
Simple.
The 19.2-oz can format also gives Sierra Nevada more room to show off that artwork. Instead of squeezing the park illustration into a traditional 12-ounce package, the larger can provides a much bigger canvas for the National Park Foundation collaboration and the vintage-inspired artwork.
The packaging also carries the National Park Foundation branding, continuing the connection between Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and support for America’s national parks. That connection is one of the reasons this series works so well. These are not simply alternate labels for Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Each package gives a specific park its own identity.
For collectors, the new Redwood National Park Sierra Nevada Pale Ale can should be one to watch. The artwork is substantially different from the earlier park designs, and the 19.2-ounce format makes the new package easy to distinguish from the 12-ounce National Parks Series cans and bottles that Sierra Nevada has released previously.
The timing also suggests that this series is not finished. The information accompanying the new packaging says to stay tuned for additional parks, so Redwood National Park and the returning Great Smoky Mountains National Park appear to be the next step rather than the end of the collection.
For Sierra Nevada Pale Ale fans, national park collectors and anybody who grabs interesting craft beer cans, this is a fun expansion of a series that already has plenty of visual appeal. The beer stays familiar at 5.6% ABV, but the package gets larger, the artwork gets plenty of room and Redwood National Park gets its turn in the Sierra Nevada spotlight.

About Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is one of the defining names in American craft beer, and the brewery’s history is closely tied to the rise of hop-forward American brewing. Founded in Chico, California, by Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada began with a small operation built around experimentation, persistence and a serious interest in making better beer. The company has since grown into one of America’s most recognizable independent craft breweries while maintaining its family-owned identity. Today, Sierra Nevada Brewing operates major brewing facilities in Chico, California, and Mills River, North Carolina, giving the brewery a national footprint while keeping its roots firmly connected to its original home in Northern California.
The beer that changed everything was Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Its combination of pale malt, distinctive hop character and balanced bitterness helped establish a model for American pale ale at a time when the country’s beer market looked very different from today’s enormous craft beer scene. Pale Ale became Sierra Nevada’s signature beer and remains one of the most recognizable American craft beers. The brewery’s later lineup expanded dramatically, but Pale Ale continues to serve as an important reference point for what Sierra Nevada does best: brewing flavorful beer that does not need unnecessary complications to make an impression.
That brewing philosophy can still be seen throughout the Sierra Nevada portfolio. The brewery has developed beers ranging from Torpedo Extra IPA and Celebration Fresh Hop IPA to Bigfoot Barleywine, Hazy Little Thing and numerous seasonal, specialty and limited releases. Sierra Nevada has also continued experimenting with newer beer styles and lower-alcohol offerings, including recent releases such as Go-Two, while maintaining the hop-forward brewing character that helped establish the brewery’s reputation.
Sierra Nevada is also known for paying attention to the physical presentation of its beer. The brewery’s packaging has become recognizable in its own right, and the National Parks Series is a good example of how Sierra Nevada can connect beer, artwork and the outdoors. The National Parks Series pairs Sierra Nevada Pale Ale with illustrations inspired by individual national parks, giving each package its own visual identity while keeping the beer itself consistent. The 2026 series featured parks including Yellowstone, Yosemite, Zion, Joshua Tree, Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains, with the brewery expanding its partnership with the National Park Foundation.
The new Redwood National Park Sierra Nevada Pale Ale package fits naturally into that approach. Redwood National Park provides an obvious subject for dramatic beer artwork, with enormous trees and dense forest offering the kind of imagery that translates extremely well onto a large can. Moving the National Parks Series into 19.2-ounce cans gives Sierra Nevada even more room to showcase that artwork while maintaining the 5.6% ABV Pale Ale recipe.
The National Parks Series also gives Sierra Nevada a way to connect one of America’s best-known craft beers with outdoor recreation and national park culture. That is a strong match for the brewery. Sierra Nevada’s own name comes from the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and the company has long maintained a close association with hiking, outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship.
The brewery’s history is also marked by resourcefulness. Grossman assembled Sierra Nevada’s original brewhouse using equipment sourced from salvage yards and defunct dairies, eventually building a brewery that would become a major force in American craft beer. That independent approach remains part of the Sierra Nevada identity today.
From Pale Ale to modern IPA releases, seasonal beers, specialty projects and the National Parks Series, Sierra Nevada continues to build new releases around a recognizable brewing identity. The Redwood National Park Pale Ale is another example: familiar beer, new artwork, a larger package and another national park added to the collection. For Sierra Nevada fans, Pale Ale drinkers and national park enthusiasts, that combination makes the latest National Parks Series packaging worth watching as additional parks begin appearing.
