Rogue’s John Maier (aka The Beard) Testifies To Make Brewer’s Yeast the Official State Microbe of Oregon

The Beard announces that the Oregon House has approved legislation naming Saccharomyces cerevisiae, or brewer’s yeast, as the official state microbe of Oregon. The bill is currently before a committee of the Oregon Senate.

The Beard is a proud supporter of this legislation (HCR 12), as it honors brewer’s yeast and the important role it plays in Oregon’s craft beer, craft distilling and wine trades. Earlier this month, the Beard road from Newport, Oregon to the state capitol in Salem to testify in favor of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
