Winners of the first-ever San Diego Beer News Awards announced Local beer website San Diego Beer News unveils local craft fans’ and brewery employees’ choices for the county’s best beers and breweries in 26 different categories

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 4, 2021)—Today, the winners of the first- annual San Diego Beer News Awards were announced. This first- of-its-kind, all-San-Diego competition was presented by online resource, San Diego Beer News (SDBN), in coordination with banner sponsor Yakima Chief Hops. Fans nominated 386 ales and lagers from San Diego County breweries in 19 style categories, setting up a pair of ballots, one for beer enthusiasts and another for members of the local brewing industry. A total of 156 gold, silver and bronze awards were announced via a pair of “virtual award shows” featuring San Diego TV, radio and podcast personalities, as well as scores of brewers, brewery owners and members of the

“The goal of the San Diego Beer News Awards was to provide recognition to local breweries for the good work they do, from local beer drinkers and their industry peers,” says SDBN Founder and Executive Editor Brandon Hernández. “For a beer or brewery to be considered in a particular category, it had to be publicly nominated by a fan on social media. And for the industry poll, brewery employees could vote for any beers or
breweries they wanted except their own, allowing talent to recognize talent while maintaining authenticity across the process.”

Winners were awarded for Best Brewery in five geographic regions, with Carlsbad-based Burgeon Beer Co. (west), Vista-based Eppig Brewing (north) and Kearny Mesa’s Societe Brewing (central) unanimous choices in their areas.
