Oskar Blues Revel Ale

Oskar Blues Revel Ale is coming for the holidays, and today we’re getting an early look at a new limited-release spruce tip IPA from Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont, Colorado. This upcoming seasonal craft beer combines the familiar appeal of an India Pale Ale with the addition of spruce tips, bringing something a little different to the brewery’s holiday beer lineup.

The new Oskar Blues Revel Ale checks in at 6.5% ABV, and the 12-oz can packaging artwork gives us a first look at a winter-themed release that should fit right in alongside the seasonal beers arriving toward the end of the year.

This looks interesting already.

Oskar Blues Revel Ale brings spruce tips to the holiday beer lineup

According to the new packaging, Oskar Blues Revel Ale is officially described as a Spruce Tip IPA. That immediately makes this upcoming Oskar Blues Brewery release worth watching, especially for craft beer drinkers who enjoy seasonal IPAs that move beyond the usual combinations of citrus-forward and tropical hops.

Spruce tips have a long history in brewing, and when used in beer, they can contribute distinctive evergreen, resinous, citrus-like, and sometimes slightly herbal characteristics. Those flavors can work particularly well with the bitterness and aromatic qualities already associated with American IPAs.

Of course, the exact character of Oskar Blues Revel Ale will depend on the brewing recipe, the hops selected, and how prominently the spruce tips come through in the finished beer.

We haven’t tasted it yet, so there’s no reason to pretend otherwise.

At 6.5% ABV, Revel Ale lands in familiar American IPA territory, giving this holiday limited release enough strength to appeal to regular IPA drinkers without pushing into the heavier double IPA category.

Revel Ale features festive winter packaging

The Oskar Blues Revel Ale can artwork certainly gets the holiday message across.

The label features a dark evergreen background, oversized red Revel Ale lettering, and snow-covered typography surrounded by falling snowflakes. Cream-colored accents and contrasting green stripes help frame the design, while the Oskar Blues Brewery logo sits prominently above the beer’s name.

There’s also a small holiday message incorporated into the artwork that reads “Ho Ho Hold My Beer,” complete with a Santa hat.

A little holiday attitude.

The packaging identifies Revel Ale as a limited release, with Spruce Tip IPA printed across the bottom of the label. It also confirms the beer’s 6.5% alcohol content and shows the familiar Oskar Blues Brewery branding.

One important detail worth pointing out is the package size. Although early information referenced 16-ounce cans, the supplied Revel Ale artwork actually specifies 12 fluid ounces, or 355 mL. We’ll be watching for confirmation of the final retail format as additional release information becomes available.

What to expect from Oskar Blues Revel Ale Spruce Tip IPA

The addition of spruce tips gives this upcoming Oskar Blues holiday beer an interesting seasonal identity, particularly because evergreen ingredients naturally connect with the aromas and flavors associated with winter.

Unlike traditional holiday ales that sometimes rely on cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, or other warming spices, a spruce tip IPA offers a different approach to seasonal brewing, allowing the combination of hops and evergreen ingredients to take center stage.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Revel Ale will taste like a Christmas tree. Spruce tips can contribute a range of flavors depending on how they’re harvested, prepared, and incorporated into the brewing process.

The result could be an interesting combination of hop bitterness, fresh evergreen character, and citrus-like aromatics, although we’ll reserve judgment until we actually have the finished beer in hand.

For now, Oskar Blues Revel Ale appears to be another seasonal addition to the brewery’s expanding selection of specialty craft beers.

When will Oskar Blues Revel Ale be released?

Oskar Blues Revel Ale is expected to arrive during the November and December holiday release window, although an exact launch date and confirmed distribution information have not yet been announced.

The limited-release designation on the packaging suggests this will be a seasonal offering rather than a permanent addition to the Oskar Blues beer lineup.

We’ll also be interested to see whether Revel Ale reaches the brewery’s wider distribution network or receives a more selective regional rollout.

Either way, this new Oskar Blues Spruce Tip IPA gives holiday beer fans something different to look for as winter approaches.

Stay tuned to mybeerbuzz.com for additional Oskar Blues Revel Ale release details, packaging updates, distribution information, and tasting notes as we get closer to the holiday season.

About Oskar Blues Brewery – Longmont, Colorado

Oskar Blues Brewery is an American craft brewery based in Longmont, Colorado, known for helping change the way independent craft beer was packaged, distributed, and enjoyed. Founded by Dale Katechis in Lyons, Colorado, in 1997, Oskar Blues began as a restaurant and music venue before developing into one of the most recognizable names in American craft brewing.

The brewery established its reputation through an unconventional approach to packaging, becoming a pioneer of modern canned craft beer when it began putting Dale’s Pale Ale into aluminum cans in 2002. At a time when many craft beer drinkers associated cans with inexpensive domestic beer, Oskar Blues Brewery demonstrated that quality, flavorful craft beer could thrive in a portable aluminum package.

That decision helped establish a new direction for American craft brewing, encouraging other breweries to reconsider the benefits of cans for protecting beer from light, improving portability, and making craft beer more accessible for outdoor activities.

Oskar Blues Brewery and Dale’s Pale Ale

Dale’s Pale Ale remains one of the best-known beers associated with Oskar Blues Brewery. This hop-forward American pale ale helped introduce generations of craft beer drinkers to the brewery’s approach to brewing flavorful beer without taking itself too seriously.

Over the years, the Oskar Blues beer portfolio has expanded to include several recognizable releases, including Mama’s Little Yella Pils, Old Chub Scotch Ale, Ten FIDY Imperial Stout, and a rotating selection of IPAs, specialty beers, and limited releases.

Oskar Blues Brewery has continued experimenting with different brewing styles while maintaining a strong connection to its original Colorado identity. Its selection includes approachable everyday beers alongside stronger, more adventurous offerings designed for experienced craft beer enthusiasts.

The upcoming Oskar Blues Revel Ale Spruce Tip IPA fits into that tradition, introducing an evergreen-inspired seasonal IPA that offers something different from the brewery’s regular lineup.

Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont and Brevard

As demand for Oskar Blues craft beer increased, the company expanded beyond its original Lyons location, establishing a larger production operation in Longmont, Colorado.

The Longmont brewery became an important part of the company’s growth, providing additional brewing capacity while maintaining its connection to the Colorado craft beer community.

Oskar Blues also expanded to Brevard, North Carolina, opening its East Coast production facility in 2012. This second brewery helped the company reach additional markets while reducing the distance finished beer needed to travel to customers throughout the eastern United States.

Both brewery locations feature taprooms where visitors can enjoy familiar Oskar Blues beers alongside specialty releases and smaller-batch offerings.

The Longmont location is home to the Tasty Weasel Taproom, which opened in February 2009 and remains a popular destination for Colorado beer enthusiasts.

Oskar Blues seasonal beers and specialty releases

Limited-release beers have become another important part of the Oskar Blues Brewery identity. Alongside its established year-round offerings, the brewery regularly explores seasonal recipes, alternative ingredients, and specialty brewing styles.

Oskar Blues Revel Ale represents that experimental approach through its use of spruce tips, an ingredient with historical connections to brewing and a natural association with winter.

The upcoming Revel Ale Spruce Tip IPA is identified as a limited release with a 6.5% ABV, making it an interesting addition to the brewery’s holiday beer selection.

For craft beer drinkers following new Oskar Blues releases, seasonal offerings provide an opportunity to experience something outside the company’s familiar core brands.

Oskar Blues Brewery continues to operate production facilities in Colorado and North Carolina, maintaining the canned craft beer identity that helped establish its reputation more than two decades ago.
