The more I sample different ciders, the more I’m impressed by the combinations and flavors that cider-makers are able to come up with…and just when you think you’ve tasted them all, along comes Schilling Cider with something new.

Today we’ll be sampling two of their Big Zesty ciders, and I think you’ll find that these variants are really flavorful and unique. If you’re not familiar, Schilling Cider comes to us from Seattle, WA and as they would put it, “Schilling ciders are bold, innovative, and flavor-forward. Using fresh-pressed apples and locally sourced wholesome ingredients, our ciders give you a beverage experience that will have you wanting to taste our entire line-up. Nothing artificial, no preservatives, and the perfect balance for any occasion.”

Today’s two hard ciders are Big Zesty Guava Lemonade and the new Big Zesty Raspberry Lemonade, and while they have lemonade in common, I think you’ll find them to have a really different and likeable flavor profiles. Lemonade-ciders aren’t something I had tried before, so it was really fun to get to try two side-by-side. Of course I’m anxious to start sipping, so off we go…

Schilling Cider Big Zesty Guava Lemonade

Cidery Description:  Schilling’s bold entry into the new world of lemonade ciders is nothing short of spectacular. The guava juice adds just a full layer of juiciness that is balanced well with the acidity of the lemon, not too sweet and not too tart.

ABV:  6.9%
Style:  Lemonade Cider
Packaging:  12oz cans
Appearance:  Copper orange
Aroma:  Fresh apple, tart lemons & tropical fruits
Mouthfeel:   Medium
Taste:   Juicy apples, bright lemons, mixed citrus & sticky guava
Overall: Big Zesty Guava Lemonade has a nice punch of apples and lemonade followed by the dull and sticky flavors of guava. The balance of sweet guava, tart apples and sour lemons makes for a really balanced sip and a refreshing set of flavors.

Schilling Cider Big Zesty Raspberry Lemonade

Cidery Description:  Raspberry Lemonade transports you to another sunshine filled party place with totally razz vibes. Slip into summer with this juicy, tangy and sparkling bevvy, packed with ripe raspberries and fresh lemonade.

ABV:  6.9%
Style:  Lemonade Cider
Packaging:  19.2oz cans
Appearance:  Golden tan
Aroma:  Fresh apple, bright lemons and tart raspberries
Mouthfeel:   Medium
Taste:   Apple, tart raspberry, lemon and citrus
Overall: Big Zesty Raspberry Lemonade starts out nicely for me before I even take a sip. I’m talking about just how nice it is to have 19.2oz cans full of a really tasty cider and how nice it is to enjoy a really drinkable cider in a really nice sized package. This big zesty flavor leads with raspberries and they nicely and seamlessly blend into the zesty lemonade flavors and tart apples on board. The combination of flavors and overall balance made this cider not only my favorite of the two, but one of my top 10 favorite ciders.
