Mybeerbuzz.com Highlights Indeed Brewing Pistachio Cream Ale (Review)

I’ve been lucky enough to sample some really interesting beers and really creative combinations of flavors, and every time I’m amazed at how good some odd combinations can be. Just when you think you’ve tasted everything, a creative brewery proves you wrong, and today that brewery is Indeed Brewing in Minneapolis, MN.

The beer is called Pistachio Cream Ale and it started life as an R&D project from Indeed’s Milwaukee pilot brewery in Feb 2020. In May 2020 the beer was released as a one-off and I’m happy to report that as of Feb 2021, Pistachio Cream Ale has become a year-round core beer at Indeed.

The beer starts life as a cream ale brewed with Pilsner, 6-row, Munich and corn malts as well as Mittelfruh and El Dorado hops. The beer uses A15 ale yeast and as you may have guessed by the name, “Pistachio essence” is added to create the beer. Of course I’m excited to try it, so off we go…

ABV:  5.5%
IBU: 15
Style:  Cream Ale

Appearance:  Light & clear golden
Aroma:   Nutty pistachio and soft biscuit
Mouthfeel:   Clean, crisp and refreshing
Taste:   Nutty pistachio, earthy malt, baked bread & slightly grassy hops
Overall:  Pistachio Cream Ale has a really interesting mix of flavors, and while I kept trying to lock in on the pistachio, I found a whole lot more. The beer leans a bit toward a traditional cream ale, but the nutty pistachio and malty sweetness really round it out nicely. This beer makes for a really interesting daily drinker and I found it a bit more hoppy (in a good way) than I was expecting. Overall Pistachio Cream Ale has a lot to offer and it makes for a very nice sessionable cream ale.
