imageBack in April I brought you a peek at this beer, so I was more than a little excited to get an early chance to sample it.  You see, not only do I love all things that have the word “peaches” in the name, I also really like a lot of the beer coming from Fort Collins Brewery.

Today we’re sampleing Fort Collins Peaches & Barley.  This “summer saison”  is unique to say the least, so unique I didn’t realize it was a saison until I read the label.  That’s because Peaches & Barley is brewed with Palisade peaches, apricots, orange peel, ginger and black peppercorns….and while there is some saison-family resemblence in there, I really focused on the peaches & apricots.

Peaches & Barley has lots of great Belgian yeast character in the nose, but you can’t miss the aromas of fresh fruit on this one.  If the aroma doesn’t impress you (it will) then the flavor definitely will.  I love stone fuits, so the intense apricot and peach flavors really made this beer enjoyable for me.  Fort Collins used Magnum and Centennial hops to balance out the sweetness of the fruit and even at 7.5%-AbV, you’ll want another sip (and another sip…and another sip).  Peaches and Barley finishes with a slightly dry and peppery flavor and overall it’s a really well balanced and drinkable beer.

Peaches & Barley will be available throughout Fort Collins’ distribution footprint in 12oz bottles (six-packs) and kegs so get out there and try it for yourself.  And when you do, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
