Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights 21st Amendment / Fieldwork A Terrible Idea Hazy IPAWhen is a terrible idea not really a terrible idea?  When that terrible idea is actually a cold beer sitting in front of me…and when that cold beer is a new and exciting hazy IPA collaboration coming from the west coast.  So we offer a big thank you to 21st Amendment for helping me get my hands on this one and for coming up with THIS terrible idea.

Today we’ll be sampling the new collaboration beer coming from 21st Amendment in San Leandro, CA and Fieldwork Brewing in Berkeley, CA…and if you haven’t guessed already, the beer is named “A Terrible Idea Hazy IPA.”  This beer pays tribute to the “seemingly terrible ideas that lead to a road unknown” and 21st Amendment cites some of theirs, “leaving a well-paying desk job to become a brewer, or being one of the first breweries to put craft beer in a can, or brewing a beer with watermelons.”  I’ll cite one of my own…it would be a terrible idea to not start drinking this beer now…so off we go.

A Terrible Idea is a hazy IPA and as you may have guessed, it pours a bright golden color with a prominent haze.  The aromas lead with resinous pine and end with an earthy dankness I really liked.  DO take the time to smell this beer…it has a lot going on in the aroma department that we really enjoyed.

As expected there are tons of fruit-forward hop flavors in this beer.  I really liked the peach, pineapple and citrus flavors that march into your mouth, thanks in part to the four-pounds of hops per barrel used in this beer.  That amount is in fact twice the typical hopping rate used for most 21st Amendment beers.  A Terrible Idea has a clean but dank finish that made me want another sip (and another sip…and another sip…).  The beer is brewed with Mosaic, Ekuanot, Calypso and Citra hops and you’ll love the complexity and juicy balance they impart.  The beer also uses “Vermont ale yeast” so 21st Amendment’s Nico Freccia is calling it a “California New England Style Hazy IPA.”21st Amendment & Fieldwork Release Hazy IPA Collab

Call it whatever you like, but we’re calling it tasty and drinkable, and overall we really enjoyed exploring the aromas and the juicy hop-forward flavors.  Be sure to also check out the fun 12oz can packages.  I particularly liked the caveman trying to drag an elephant on a cart with triangular wheels…and while that may be a terrible idea, the beer is definitely NOT.

21st Amendment / Fieldwork A Terrible Idea Hazy IPA debuted on Aug 18th and it will be available in 12oz cans in 27-states (and Washington DC), so get out there and try it for yourself….and when you do, be sure to let us know what YOU think.

This from 21st Amendment:
