From time to time I get the opportunity to try out some non-beer products that get sent my way.  Many times they are part of new projects or new technologies, and may times they are a new take on an existing product.  Today we have a little bit of both.

Our product today is GOGO Lantern and while it is much more than just a light, at it’s core, it starts out as a great way to light things up.  Whether you’re camping over night, or lighting up your work area in a dark basement or garage, GOGO Lantern has you covered.

GOGO Lantern has loads of features so I thought we’d try out a few.  First and foremost, the base of the “bucket” is filled with LED lights.  There are three settings for lower light (60LM), brighter lights (120LM) and a flashing SOS Morse-code pattern and they all work as expected.  The low and bright setting provide a ton of light and the light is spread out so it bathes the area you’re in really well.  We tested it at night checking our gardens for slugs and in a dark basement looking for a missing box and it worked really well.  It was easy to carry and hang and really lit up both areas very well….but there’s more.

GOGO Lantern is waterproof.  So get it wet or fill it full of ice…no problem.  The IP67 Waterproof rating keeps the light dry and whatever is in the bucket can diffuse the light even more.  GOGO Lantern also has a magnetic base and the capacitive sensor switch actually turns on the lamp when it encounters metal OR water.  The base pulls off the bucket if you’d like to use just the base, the bucket comes with a bucket handle and hanging strap (to hang the base round your neck) for more convenience, and the whole thing stores nicely in it’s cloth pouch for storage or packing in your backpack….

If you’re not convinced already, it’s because I haven’t mentioned one of the best parts of this product.  GOGO Lantern has a solar cell built in so you can charge your lantern simply by sitting it in the sun.  If you’re not at the campsite or on the road, you can also charge GOGO Lantern with the included USB charge cord.  The guys tell me you can fully charge the lantern in 8-hours with the sun or in 3-hours with the USB charger, but we honestly didn’t get to test that because the GOGO Lantern worked for hours and it still doesn’t need to be charged after the original charge it arrived with (it’s rated for 6-8 hours of light on a full charge).

The GOGO Lantern has a touch sensor switch to power it on, and just a heads up that you have to lay your finger on the button for 3-5 seconds to light the lantern.  Subsequent touches switch to bright and flashing modes.  As I mentioned above, contact with water or metal (on the magnetic base) will also turn on the lantern.

We tested it in our garden and basement, but GOGO Lantern would also make a perfect night light, emergency power failure light, outdoor patio or deck light, hiking light, campground or tent light or even just a light to help you working around the house.  If that’s not fun enough, you can also decorate the bucket or even use it as a lighted bucket cooler at a party.

GOGO Lantern is just under 6-inches wide and 7-inches tall when the bucket is open or 1.5-inches tall when the bucket is collapsed.  It comes in blue, orange and green designs with frosted, clear or even logo’d/photo/design buckets.
