Lompoc – New Old Lompoc Tavern Coming in May

Wow, it’s a gorgeous day in Portland, and we are celebrating with pints of Lompoc on the patios. That’s right, it’s cold, but we’ve got heaters, so it’s all good. But if you must drink inside,come into Sidebar – today & tomorrow, we’re serving Batch 69 Baltic Porter, Franc’ly Brewdolph, Ryes of the Machines IPA, BBA Wee Heavy, Willy’s Wheat & Fool’s Golden from 4-10pm.

A quick update what used to be the New Old Lompoc on NW 23rd – progress is coming along nicely, and we anticipate opening sometime in May. The Lompoc Tavern, as it will be called, will feature something old/something new (we know some of you were holding out for the New New Old Lompoc, but it was just too much). The Tavern will remain 21+ – we can’t wait to be back in our original neighborhood!

Tomorrow, Lompoc will be one of dozens of Oregon breweries and brewpubs opening their doors to visitors for the state’s 5th annual Zwickelmania. Zwickelmania, hosted by Oregon Craft Beer, is a free statewide event that offers visitors a chance to tour Oregon breweries, meet the brewers and sample their favorite beers. The event takes place at the Fifth Quadrant from 11am to 4pm. Join us for our Black Out Beer Fest at the 5Q next Friday, Feb. 22 from 4 to 11pm. The festival will feature a dozen dark beers from Lompoc, Widmer, Breakside, Columbia River Brewing Co and The Green Dragon. Lompoc will be serving 2008 Bourbon Barrel Aged Pagan Porter, 2009 Le Chat Noir, 69 Baltic Porter, Bourbon Barrel Aged 69 Baltic Porter, Rosemary Stout, 2011 Monster Mash, 2011 Bourbon Barrel Aged Monster Mash, and the release of Cherry Stout aged for 16 months in Merlot barrels with 45# of sour cherries. As if that wasn’t enough, we’ll have Breakside Dry Stout, Columbia River’s Stumbler’s Stout, Widmer’s Imperial O’Ryely’s Dark and something special from The Green Dragon. Live music will be provided by Marty Marquis, a local musician best known for his work as a multi-instrumentalist and hype man with Portland band Blitzen Trapper. His live renditions of his song "Jericho" have long been favorites among Blitzen fans the world over. Additionally, his cowbell-playing for the group has been heralded as "virtuosic." Marquis will play from 7 to 9:30pm in the tented parking lot.

The Black Out Beer Fest is a kick off to the 7th annual Chowder Challenge, which will take place at the 5Q on Feb. 23 from Noon to 4pm. A dozen samples of traditional New England-style clam chowders from local participants are served in non-labeled, two-ounce cups. After tasting all entries, attendees vote for their favorite, and the chowder receiving the most votes is named the People’s Choice Winner. Attendees ages 12 and over purchase sample trays for $10 to participate in the tasting. All of the money raised is donated to Portland’s Community Transitional School, which provides important educational services to homeless children. The festivities include a beer garden, live music, a soda garden for kids, a raffle with prizes from the participants, special beers, and pub food for purchase. Minors are welcome at the family friendly event. This year’s participants include Breakside Brewery, Buffalo Gap Saloon & Eatery, Columbia River Brewing Co, D’s Bar, EaT: An Oyster Bar, Fifth Quadrant, Fishbox, The Green Dragon, Ice Axe Grill, Salty’s on the Columbia, Tabor Tavern & Widmer Gasthaus.
