Grand Teton Wins Silver Medal At FoBAB

Each November in Chicago, one of the greatest beer festivals takes place: The Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer, or FoBAB. FoBAB is put on by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild. This year over 100 breweries attended and over 400 different wood and barrel aged beers were submitted. The only requirement which makes a beer eligible for this competition is it must be wood or barrel aged, meaning it must have spent part of its life aging in wooden casks or aging with some other wood product meant to impart flavor and character to the beer. At Grand Teton, our "Wood Cellar" is rapidly growing and currently sits just below 200 oak casks ranging from Bourbon to various types of Wine. We are aging traditional styles of beer such as our Doppelbock and Coffee Porter but we also have a wide range of sour projects- some of which have been aging for almost 2 years now. 

This year at FoBAB, Grand Teton American Sour 2015, was awarded a Silver Medal in the Wild Beers/Sours category. American Sour is an annual release in our Brewers’ Series program which features many of our barrel aged beers. American Sour 2015 is the second release under this label and we are proud to say this beer has been awarded a medal at a national competition every time we have entered it. American Sour 2015 highlights a blend of beers aged from 9-20 months. Sharp acidity, Brett forward flavor and prominent wood character make this years vintage unique.

You can expect to find American Sour 2015 on draft and in 11.2 oz bottles in limited quantities beginning December 1. This year we also produced several variants of American Sour including a dry hopped version, fruited version and a 100% Chardonnay Barrel aged version- all 3 are only available on draft.
