Chicken Cock is a historic American whiskey brand, founded in Kentucky in 1856 and famously smuggled in tin cans during Prohibition. After a decades-long absence, the brand was revived in 2012 by Grain & Barrel Spirits and is now produced through a partnership with the Bardstown Bourbon Company. 

Brand history
1856–early 1900s: Distiller James A. Miller established the brand in Paris, Kentucky, naming it “Chicken Cock” after a regional symbol of defiance. The distillery thrived, expanding distribution across the country and even exporting to Canada.
Prohibition era (1920–1933): During Prohibition, the brand’s production moved to Canada. From there, it was smuggled back into the U.S. in tin cans and became the house whiskey at the famous Cotton Club in Harlem, earning it the nickname “the whiskey in a tin can”.
Decline and disappearance: The brand faded in popularity after World War II. A distillery fire in the 1950s was the final blow, and the brand disappeared from the market.
2012 revival: Spirits entrepreneur Matti Anttila revived the brand, partnering with the Bardstown Bourbon Company to produce new whiskeys.
