Dogfish Head Jett Black Lager: Joan Jett Collaboration Coming Soon
Today I have your first look at an exciting new musical collaboration coming soon from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, Delaware. This time, Dogfish Head is turning up the volume with a beer created alongside legendary rock artist Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
Meet Jett Black Lager, a new dark lager that combines Dogfish Head’s off-centered brewing personality with the unmistakable attitude of rock ’n’ roll. The new beer will arrive at a highly sessionable 4.4% ABV and will be packaged in 12-ounce cans featuring a striking black-and-white design centered around Joan Jett, her guitar and the Dogfish Head shark logo.
The beer’s name says plenty about what Dogfish Head is going for. The label calls Jett Black Lager “Rock ’n Roll Beer for Rock ’n Roll People!” and describes it as being “black to the core” and brewed to destroy the thirst of those who “lay it all out there.”
While the label does not yet provide a detailed ingredient list, hopping rate, malt bill or tasting notes, the dark lager designation makes this an especially interesting addition to the Dogfish Head lineup. At 4.4% ABV, Jett Black Lager also fits squarely into the growing interest in flavorful, lower-alcohol lagers that can deliver plenty of character without pushing into high-ABV territory.
The packaging may ultimately be just as important to this collaboration as the beer itself. The Jett Black Lager cans use an intentionally stark black-and-white presentation, with Joan Jett prominently featured alongside her guitar. The design has the look of a vintage rock poster or concert handbill rather than a traditional beer label, making it one of the more visually distinctive Dogfish Head collaborations on the horizon.
This is also another example of Dogfish Head’s long-running relationship with music and pop culture. The brewery has repeatedly used collaborations to connect beer with musicians, artists and other cultural personalities. Recent Dogfish Head collaborations have included projects with the Grateful Dead, while the brewery’s broader portfolio continues to emphasize creativity, experimentation and its long-standing connection to music.
For beer hunters, the most important details are straightforward: Jett Black Lager is a dark lager, it will be 4.4% ABV, and it will arrive in 12-ounce cans. The label identifies Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, Delaware, along with the brewery’s other production locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and states that the beer was brewed and canned in collaboration with The Boston Beer Company.
Dogfish Head and The Boston Beer Company have been connected since their 2019 combination, which brought Dogfish Head’s distinctive brewing approach into the Boston Beer family while allowing the Delaware brewery to continue operating as a major craft brand.
At this point, full Jett Black Lager release details and tasting notes have not been announced. That means we will have to wait for additional information before knowing exactly what malt character, roast profile, bitterness and finish this new dark lager will deliver.
For now, though, the combination of Dogfish Head + Joan Jett + a black lager + 4.4% ABV is enough to make this one worth watching.
Stay tuned for the full release details, availability information and tasting notes as they become available.

About Dogfish Head Craft Brewery:
Dogfish Head has built its reputation around doing things differently. Founded by Sam and Mariah Calagione in Delaware in 1995, the brewery became one of the early American craft brewing pioneers to embrace culinary ingredients, unusual brewing techniques and beers that deliberately moved beyond traditional style boundaries. The brewery opened Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in Rehoboth Beach in 1995 before opening its Milton brewery in 2002.
That spirit of experimentation remains central to the Dogfish Head identity. The brewery describes its philosophy around quality, creativity and non-conformity, and its portfolio has expanded well beyond traditional craft beer into spirits and ready-to-drink cocktails. Dogfish Head’s current operation includes its production brewery and tasting room in Milton, Dogfish Head Distilling Co., Brewings & Eats, Chesapeake & Maine and the Dogfish INN.
Dogfish Head is also part of The Boston Beer Company, following the 2019 combination of the two American craft brewing pioneers. The partnership brought together Boston Beer’s Samuel Adams portfolio with Dogfish Head’s distinctive lineup while retaining the creative identities and brewing expertise that made both companies major names in American craft beer.
Music has long been an important part of Dogfish Head’s personality, making a collaboration with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts feel particularly appropriate. The brewery has previously worked with musical acts including the Grateful Dead, producing beers that connect its brewing creativity with music culture. The 2026 lineup also continues Dogfish Head’s emphasis on collaborations, experimentation and new ways of approaching craft beverages.
Jett Black Lager therefore fits naturally into the brewery’s history of unconventional collaborations. Instead of simply putting a famous name on a familiar beer, the project uses a dark lager, a relatively approachable 4.4% ABV, and a highly recognizable rock ’n’ roll visual identity to create something that should stand out on the shelf.
The label’s culinary-inspired brewing language also reinforces Dogfish Head’s broader philosophy of using real ingredients and creative brewing processes. However, because the Jett Black Lager label currently does not reveal the complete recipe or detailed tasting profile, it is too early to make specific claims about roast, chocolate, coffee, caramel, hop character or mouthfeel.
What we do know is enough to make this an intriguing upcoming release: Dogfish Head Jett Black Lager is a 4.4% ABV dark lager created in association with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and packaged in eye-catching 12-ounce black-and-white cans. As more release information becomes available, the beer’s recipe, distribution and tasting profile should provide a much clearer picture of what is inside these very rock ’n’ roll cans.
