Although this one has an extra day compared to the last three, February is still the shortest month of the year. Easter Eggs are in the shops, and thoughts will soon be turned towards long, well-deserved summer holidays. But if you need something else to look forward to in the meantime, our world-beating brewery team have been keeping the winter cold at bay with these amazing beers to be. So let’s open the hatches and take a look!

Elvis Juice

It’s traditional to begin our ‘what’s in tank’ blogs with a beer that is no longer in tanks at all. Elvis Juice is actually in cans, having been packaged last week, and is ready to take to the stagetomorrow (online) and Thursday (in our UK Bars). Yes, our next beer release to follow Jet Black Heart will be a dual-pronged citrus assault, and it will be led by the heavy-armour of canned Elvis Juice. The revamped and dialled in grapefruit-infused IPA is as fresh as you could want; zesty, citrus-laced and massively refreshing.

Ace of Simcoe

Marching to the same beat as Elvis we have a second beer to be released alongside. Just out of tank and packaged we have the debut of the brand new Ace of Hops series. This run of limited-release single hop session IPAs begins with one of our favourites – the amazing Simcoe. With a kick of resinous pine backed by floral apricot and deeper passion fruit flavours, this is one to look for (as will the upcoming Aces of Chinook, Citra and Equinox). Stand by for a blog post on Elvis Juice and Ace of Simcoe tomorrow!

Ship Wreck

Four months ago, Ballast Point took the money and ran as they sold out to a Mexican distributor and left the ranks of craft beer behind them. As a result, we are not ordering any more of their beer for our bars – but we had a collaboration beer ageing in our Ellon brewhouse. We are not about to pour away the hard labours of our brewteam based on the misguided decisions of others, so Ship Wreck will be a 13.8% redacted collaboration strong ale, aged in Speyside and Islay casks.

Monk Hammer

Slightly further down the lines we have the launch of a spin-off series you’ll really want to catch (unlike the ones on TV). The first of our Hammer Heads will hit the canning plant next month, as we add a different dimension in turn to our ruthless India Pale Ale Jack Hammer. For the debut; the grapefruit bitterness will be rounded by the fruity esters of Belgian yeast – what effect will this have on our Amplified hero? Tune in to Monk Hammer, coming in March.

Protoköl

Speaking of esters, we have high hopes for another upcoming beer. After our first Kölsch-style ale (No Label) we are brewing another as a one-off keg only brew, and are going to get even more of the distinctive estery fruit flavours, traditional hop character and classic clean crispness these fascinating Cologne-style ales possess. Northern Germany’s historic answer to the continent-sweeping rise of bottom-fermented lagers, conditioning on site at the moment we have the brand new Protoköl.

Clown King

We get asked a lot to re-brew old beers, and one name that comes out more than most is Clown King. Well, if it was you sending those postcards then you’re in luck, as we have just brewed the gargantuan US barley wine again and it is currently fermenting away in our Ellon brewhouse. A huge malt bill, enormous levels of Simcoe, Mosaic, Ahtanum and Magnum hops – and many very excited BrewDog fans (not to mention brewers…now the brewday has been completed, at least).

J Wakefield Collaboration

We have a huge amount of respect for Jonathan Wakefield – the king of the Florida Berliner Weisse. A man who translated his homebrewing into a stunning career at Cigar City beforestriking out on his own, Jonathan was over in Scotland right at the start of the year trading the heat of Miami for the sleet of Ellon. But whilst here we collaborated on a series of Berliner Weisses, which are currently in tank and getting ready to go. Look out for a detailed J Wakefield blog post soon!

Abstrakt AB:20

Time flies as they say, and we have reached the twentieth edition of our boundary pushing Abstrakt series of beers. It is going to be one for the ages too, as we are going to the metaphorical town on AB20. We have brewed a coffee milk English barley wine, and have blended this with an equally stunning barrel-aged imperial stout. So think liquid tiramisu, backed by a rich and decadent layer of warming alcohol. And much more besides.

Dog E

Finally, the successive names may be unsurprising, but the beers are no less exciting. The start of a new year heralds the brew of our Imperial Anniversary Stout – and this years’ iteration (of course named Dog E) has just been consigned to barrels to absorb a whole other spectrum of flavours. Dog D was the first time we barrel-aged our liquid celebration, so we are sealing the same fate for our Ninth birthday beer. What could we do for Dog F next year, our tenth anniversary…?

That’s it for our most recent rundown of beery goodness that will soon be making their way to your glassware – which are you looking forward to the most?
