Today, I have an exciting new release to share from Beachwood Blendery in Long Beach, California. Known for producing world-class mixed fermentation beers, barrel-aged sour ales, and traditionally inspired wild ales, Beachwood Blendery is preparing to introduce a brand-new Belgian-inspired sour beer called Pear-Anormal. This unique release showcases the brewery’s dedication to spontaneous fermentation, patient oak aging, and fruit-forward complexity.

Pear-Anormal is a Belgian-style sour ale spontaneously fermented and aged in oak with D’Anjou pears. This highly anticipated release is designated as Batch 1 from 2025 and arrives at 7.3% ABV. The beer will be packaged in elegant 500ml bottles, making it an appealing addition for both sour beer enthusiasts and craft beer collectors seeking limited production offerings.

Inspired by the rich traditions of Belgian gueuze production, Pear-Anormal combines old-world brewing techniques with premium fruit character. The label specifically notes that the beer is inspired by the Belgian gueuze tradition, a style celebrated for its naturally complex fermentation profile, bright acidity, earthy nuances, and exceptional aging potential. By utilizing spontaneous fermentation and oak maturation, Beachwood Blendery continues to demonstrate why the brewery remains one of the most respected names in American sour beer.

The addition of D’Anjou pears is expected to bring a distinctive layer of character to the beer. D’Anjou pears are known for their juicy sweetness, subtle floral qualities, and delicate fruit aromatics. When paired with a mixed culture fermentation environment and extended oak aging, the resulting beer could offer remarkable depth, balancing vibrant tartness with nuanced pear flavor, rustic funk, oak complexity, and a dry finish.

According to the bottle artwork, Pear-Anormal is best served at cellar temperature between 45 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit and gently poured into a fluted tumbler. These serving recommendations are often associated with premium barrel-aged and spontaneously fermented beers, allowing drinkers to fully appreciate the layered aroma profile, evolving flavor complexity, and expressive carbonation.

Fans of lambic-inspired beers, barrel-aged sour ales, wild ales, spontaneous fermentation beers, and fruit-forward Belgian-style sour ales will undoubtedly want to keep this release on their radar. Beachwood Blendery has earned a reputation for producing highly sought-after specialty releases, and Pear-Anormal appears poised to become another standout addition to the brewery’s already impressive portfolio.

The striking packaging further reinforces the beer’s playful character. The vibrant label design prominently features the Pear-Anormal name in colorful lettering along with the phrase “we’re not alone,” creating a memorable visual identity that matches the beer’s unconventional and adventurous spirit. Combined with the brewery’s meticulous production methods, the packaging helps position Pear-Anormal as a release that will attract attention from both dedicated craft beer drinkers and collectors of limited-edition sour ales.

As additional information becomes available, including official release dates, distribution details, tasting notes, availability, and brewery announcements, fans of Beachwood Blendery and Belgian-style sour beer will want to stay tuned. From everything currently revealed, Pear-Anormal has all the ingredients necessary to become one of the more intriguing fruit-aged sour beer releases of 2025.

The brewery has earned widespread recognition among craft beer enthusiasts for its commitment to quality, consistency, and authentic fermentation methods.

A defining characteristic of Beachwood Blendery is its dedication to long-term barrel aging. Many of the brewery’s beers spend months or even years developing inside carefully selected oak barrels. The result is a portfolio of highly expressive beers featuring layers of acidity, fruit character, earthy complexity, oak influence, and refined balance.

Beachwood Blendery is especially celebrated for its expertise in blending. Similar to traditional Belgian producers, the brewery often combines beers of different ages and fermentation profiles to create remarkable depth and harmony.
