Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights New Belgium Fruit Smash Super Hard Seltzer (Review)

I’m no expert on hard seltzer, but I can say that the category is not only growing in popularity, but it’s also growing on me. The flavors can be unique and creative and when real juice is used in the mix, the results are always better.

This is where Fruit Smash steps in from New Belgium Brewing. Last year, I brought you the news, so this year I’m excited to follow up with some new flavors. Fruit Smash launched nationwide in March 2021. The idea behind this hard seltzer is to elevate the seltzer category with beverages using clean ingredients, real fruit juices and natural flavors. Of course that means no preservatives and nothing else to get in the way of the great fruit flavor.

Initially launched with Pink Lemonade, Tropical Punch and Berry Blast flavors, for 2022 New Belgium is expanding that line-up with some new combinations. These “super hard” seltzers rock in at 8%-AbV with most having 160 calories per 12oz serving. The Fruit Smash seltzers are also packaged in come cool 12oz cans making for an interesting and functional combination. Of course I can’t wait to try the new flavors so off we go…

The new flavors include Pineapple Punch, Cherry Lime Chill and Wild Watermelon and I can say that I actually like all three new flavors as much or more than the original flavors.

Because I consider it to be one of the most important taste attributes, I should mention my favorite things about these Fruit Smash seltzers right up front. Fruit Smash seltzers have no artificial aftertaste. This issue has deterred me from other hard seltzers so I was very happy to see that Fruit Smash seltzers all have a pleasant and fruity aftertaste only.

As someone that easts a lot of fresh fruit, I was also excited to see that the Fruit Smash fruits really shine. There’s no doubt about what flavor and fruit you’re tasting and I’ll admit the 8%-AbV made them tasty and enjoyable to drink. The Pineapple Punch taste juicy and sticky, the Cherry Line Chill has a great punch of cherry with just a bit of lime citrus to balance the sweetness and the Wild Watermelon is fresh, bright and really refreshing. These seltzers are really easy drinking even at 8%-AbV and the mouthfeel and flavors are refreshing and enjoyable.
