Drake’s Releasing Block Party, Juicy Hoot, Water Wings & Sustainability Updates

Sustainability is one of our core mission values and a year round focus for all of our departments. We have a shared social responsibility to our local communities and this beautiful planet we call home, so it’s important that we exemplify those intentions in what we do here everyday. Thanks to the efforts of Sustainability Manager, Hal McConnellogue, in conjunction with all of our departments and staff, Drake’s has already made massive strides in our sustainability endeavors, including:

• Reduced packaging water usage overall by 40% (100,000 gallons/month to 60,000 gallons/month) with the implementation of engineered pump cooling systems on our bottling line
• Reduced overall water usage by 8% in 2022 vs 2021
• Decreased electrical usage by 2.3% in 2022 vs 2021
• Decreased natural gas usage 3.5% in 2022 vs 2021
• Baler usage and recycling reduced 1,600lbs of #4 LDPE Stretch Film and 42,860lbs of cardboard
• 16,000 lbs of pallet wood conserved annually by using plastic pallets for onsite transportation
• Our CO2 usage increased per barrel in 2022, but we are still using 10% less CO2 than the average brewery our size. This is the opposite direction we want to move, but awareness of this will allow us to focus on areas where we can improve

We will also be hosting Earth Day events at the Barrel House and The Barn on Saturday, April 22nd. In San Leandro, we’ll be hosting an Earth Day Market, featuring local vendors with handmade, upcycled items, while in West Sacramento, our Earth Day Celebration will feature interactive workshops and live music. We invite everyone to come by whichever location is nearest to appreciate everything this planet has provided for us. We are proud to be making constant improvements towards our sustainability practices, and hope that you’ll join us in our collective responsibility to protect Mother Earth.

EBMUD Centennial & Water Wings

Water Wings is an upcoming collaboration with East Bay Municipal Utility District to support the Water Lifeline Program, which aims to help keep clean drinking water accessible for the most financially vulnerable households located in the East Bay. This lager highlights what EBMUD does best: clean, high-quality water – a vital and underrated component of every beer. We’re fortunate to be able to access tap water as pure as we do, and we have EBMUD to thank for that. This beer will roll out in early May in 16oz cans, and will be available at all Drake’s locations and Bay Area retailers. 
We also encourage everyone to attend EBMUD’s 100th Birthday Party on Sunday, May 21st where we’ll be serving Water Wings along with other Drake’s favorites in their Centennial Beer Garden. This will be a great event to celebrate our community and appreciate the wonderful service EBMUD has provided for 100 years! All ages welcome!

Yes We CAN!

That’s a wrap on bottles folks! As of March 30th, all Drake’s products have been converted to 12oz, 16oz, or 19.2oz CAN formats. Many of our core products have already hit shelves in their new aluminum housing, so keep an eye out for your Drake’s favorites in their new fits. Cans are better for both the beer and the environment, so this upgrade is a natural step in our progression as a company that values sustainability and innovation.

Juicy Hoot – Now Available

Introducing Juicy Hoot Hazy IPA, the newest addition to our year round offerings. This Hazy IPA is a juicy tropical paradise in a glass, with an opaque appearance and a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. The aroma is dominated by notes of guava, pineapple, and passionfruit, with a subtle sweetness and a citrusy hop finish. The tropical fruit explosion on the palate is perfectly balanced by a moderate bitterness, making for a refreshing and easy-to-drink beer. Go ahead… have a HOOT!
