Tröegs Downhill Racer IPA Collaboration Coming Soon
Tröegs Downhill Racer IPA Collaboration
Tröegs Independent Brewing is bringing a new ski-inspired collaboration beer to Pennsylvania this winter, and the Hershey brewery has lined up five mountain resort partners for a release that combines craft beer, skiing, snowboarding, and a seriously interesting hop combination. The upcoming Tröegs Downhill Racer IPA collaboration features Liberty Mountain Resort, Whitetail Resort, Roundtop Mountain Resort, Jack Frost Big Boulder, and Seven Springs Mountain Resort. The new India Pale Ale will arrive in illustrated 16-ounce cans featuring downhill skiers, snow-covered trails, pine trees, and a winter-themed design that makes the connection between Pennsylvania craft beer and mountain recreation pretty obvious.
Winter beer is coming.
Tröegs Downhill Racer IPA brings together five hop varieties: Centennial, El Dorado, Vic Secret, Chinook, and Galaxy. That’s a combination with plenty of potential, particularly for IPA drinkers who enjoy citrus-forward American hops alongside the tropical fruit characteristics associated with newer Australian varieties. Centennial and Chinook provide a familiar American IPA foundation, while El Dorado, Vic Secret, and Galaxy bring additional fruit character to the mix. The Downhill Racer IPA can label describes the expected flavor profile as sweet fruit and piney citrus, suggesting a beer that balances its brighter fruit notes against a more traditional hop character.
The label also confirms that Tröegs Downhill Racer IPA will be packaged in 16-ounce cans, giving the upcoming winter collaboration a format that fits comfortably alongside the brewery’s existing selection of seasonal and specialty craft beers. The can artwork is worth a closer look. Skiers appear throughout a winding downhill course surrounded by dark evergreen trees, with light blue trails cutting through the predominantly white background. A large Downhill Racer IPA logo dominates the front, while the familiar Tröegs Independent Brewing logo and participating mountain resort names appear on the side panel.
Five mountain resort partners give this release an interesting regional connection. Liberty Mountain Resort, Whitetail Resort, and Roundtop Mountain Resort are familiar destinations for Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic winter sports enthusiasts, while Jack Frost Big Boulder and Seven Springs Mountain Resort add two more recognizable names to the collaboration. Bringing these resorts together under one Tröegs Downhill Racer IPA release connects the Hershey brewery with a broader audience of skiers, snowboarders, resort visitors, and craft beer drinkers who already associate Pennsylvania winters with time spent on the mountain.
Five resorts. One IPA.
The timing makes sense for Tröegs Independent Brewing, which has spent years developing a recognizable portfolio of Pennsylvania craft beers that includes year-round favorites, seasonal releases, and specialty offerings. Downhill Racer IPA adds a different angle to that lineup by building an upcoming winter beer around a shared regional experience rather than relying exclusively on a seasonal flavor profile. A cold-weather collaboration built around skiing, mountain resorts, and a fruit-forward IPA. There’s plenty to work with there.
For IPA enthusiasts, the hop selection may be the biggest attraction. Centennial contributes the familiar citrus and floral character that helped define American craft brewing, Chinook is commonly associated with pine and grapefruit, and El Dorado can deliver sweet fruit and candy-like notes. Vic Secret and Galaxy, both Australian hop varieties, are known for expressive tropical fruit characteristics. Together, those five hops offer Tröegs a broad range of flavors to work with, although the finished beer’s actual aroma, bitterness, and balance will depend on the brewing recipe and hopping schedule.
The new Tröegs Downhill Racer IPA can also lists sweet fruit and piney citrus as its primary tasting notes, giving drinkers an early indication of what to expect when the collaboration arrives. The label identifies the beer as an India Pale Ale and includes a standard government warning, but additional specifications, including its alcohol by volume, have not been confirmed in the supplied release information.
As for availability, Tröegs Downhill Racer IPA is expected to arrive this winter, although an official release date, retail distribution details, pricing, and participating resort availability have not yet been announced. Whether the beer will appear exclusively at the collaborating mountain resorts, through the brewery’s regular distribution network, or in both locations remains to be confirmed.
For now, the upcoming Tröegs Downhill Racer IPA collaboration gives Pennsylvania craft beer fans another release to watch as winter approaches. With five participating mountain resorts, five hop varieties, distinctive ski-themed packaging, and the brewing experience of Tröegs Independent Brewing behind it, Downhill Racer IPA has the ingredients for an interesting addition to the brewery’s seasonal offerings.
Stay tuned for confirmed release details, participating locations, and additional information about Tröegs Downhill Racer IPA.

About Tröegs Independent Brewing
Tröegs Independent Brewing is a family-owned and independently operated craft brewery located in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Founded by brothers John and Chris Trogner, Tröegs has grown into one of Pennsylvania’s most recognizable independent craft breweries, producing a diverse portfolio of year-round beers, seasonal favorites, limited releases, and experimental small-batch creations.
The brewery’s story began in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where the Trogner brothers established their brewing operation in 1996 before selling their first keg in July 1997. Their goal was to build a brewery that combined traditional brewing techniques with creative experimentation and an independent approach to making flavorful beer.
The name Tröegs combines the family’s Trogner surname with kroeg, the Flemish word for pub. It reflects the brothers’ appreciation for European brewing traditions while establishing a distinctive identity within the American craft beer industry.
As demand for Tröegs beer increased, the original Harrisburg facility eventually became too small to accommodate the brewery’s expanding operations. In October 2011, Tröegs relocated to a purpose-built production brewery at 200 East Hersheypark Drive in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
The Hershey brewery combines large-scale craft beer production with a public tasting room, brewery tours, a general store, and a food program centered around its popular Snack Bar. Visitors can experience the brewing process firsthand while sampling familiar Tröegs releases and experimental beers that may only be available at the brewery.
Tröegs Independent Brewing is particularly well known for Perpetual IPA, its flagship India Pale Ale and one of Pennsylvania’s most recognizable hop-forward craft beers. Perpetual IPA helped establish the brewery’s reputation among American IPA enthusiasts through its distinctive combination of citrus, pine, and assertive hop character.
Other notable Tröegs beers include Tröegenator Double Bock, DreamWeaver Wheat, Sunshine Pilsner, and Mad Elf, the brewery’s popular holiday ale brewed with cherries and honey.
Mad Elf has become closely associated with Pennsylvania’s winter beer season, while the brewery’s broader portfolio continues to introduce new recipes and limited offerings throughout the year.
Experimentation remains an important part of the Tröegs brewing philosophy.
The brewery’s Scratch Series allows its brewing team to explore new ingredients, brewing methods, hop combinations, and emerging beer styles through smaller experimental batches. These releases provide opportunities to test ideas before potentially developing them into larger production beers.
Tröegs also operates a dedicated Scratch Lab, supporting its ongoing research into brewing ingredients, fermentation, and flavor development.
Its commitment to Pennsylvania agriculture is another defining characteristic. Tröegs purchases substantial quantities of locally produced grain, honey, and fruit, incorporating regional agricultural products into its brewing program while maintaining relationships with Pennsylvania farmers.
The brewery also supports community organizations and conservation initiatives through partnerships that connect craft beer with outdoor recreation and environmental preservation.
That connection makes collaborations such as Downhill Racer IPA a natural extension of the Tröegs identity. Working with Pennsylvania mountain resorts allows the brewery to combine its interest in outdoor adventure with its established brewing experience, introducing new beers that celebrate regional destinations and shared experiences.
As Tröegs continues expanding its IPA offerings, collaborations and experimental releases remain important ways to introduce different hop combinations and reach craft beer drinkers interested in discovering something new.
The brewery’s commitment to family ownership, independent brewing, local ingredients, and ongoing experimentation continues to shape its place within the Pennsylvania craft beer community.
