Evil Twin Brewing: barrel-aged Cuvée De Candy Bars imperial stout

Evil Twin Brewing is getting ready to bring another big dessert-inspired stout to cans, and this one sounds like it was built for drinkers who want their imperial stout rich, sweet and packed with chocolate character. The new Barrel-Aged Cuvée De Candy Bars combines a hefty 14.8% ABV with banana, chocolate, coconut, cocoa and vanilla, giving this New York City brewery another eye-catching release for the strong stout crowd.

This is not a light seasonal beer. At nearly 15% ABV, Cuvée De Candy Bars sits firmly in the big imperial stout category, where barrel aging and dessert-inspired ingredients can turn a single can into something closer to an after-dinner pour than an everyday beer. Evil Twin is leaning into the candy bar idea with a combination of flavors that should sound familiar to anyone who enjoys chocolate-forward stouts, although the actual balance of sweetness, roast and barrel character will have to wait until tasting notes are available.

Banana is an interesting addition here. Chocolate and vanilla are familiar partners in dessert stouts, and coconut can add another layer of flavor, but banana gives this beer a different direction from the usual chocolate-and-coffee combination. Depending on how the beer was brewed and conditioned, that banana character could help round out the chocolate, add a ripe fruit note or simply provide another layer beneath the richer ingredients.

The brewery describes the beer as a barrel-aged imperial stout brewed with banana and conditioned on chocolate, coconut, cocoa and vanilla. That distinction matters because the ingredients are intended to work with the base beer rather than replace it. A strong stout still needs enough roasted malt character and body to hold up against all those additions, while barrel aging can contribute additional depth and a warming finish.

Big beer. Bigger dessert character.

The new Cuvée De Candy Bars will be packaged in 12-ounce cans, making it easier for stout fans to try the release without committing to a larger bottle. At 14.8% ABV, though, this is a beer to approach with some care. The alcohol level is substantial, and the dessert-inspired description should not distract from the strength of the finished beer.

Evil Twin has built a reputation around adventurous brewing and releases that push beyond traditional beer styles, making a candy bar-inspired barrel-aged stout a natural fit for its lineup. The concept also lands squarely in the part of the craft beer market where drinkers seek intense flavors, unusual ingredient combinations and beers designed for slow sipping rather than quick consumption.

There are still details missing. The brewery has not provided a confirmed release date, distribution information or formal tasting notes in the announcement supplied here, so those details should not be guessed. For now, the headline is the combination of a 14.8% ABV imperial stout, barrel aging and a lineup of banana, chocolate, coconut, cocoa and vanilla.

Cuvée De Candy Bars sounds like a release aimed at fans of rich dessert stouts, especially those who enjoy chocolate-forward beers with a little more going on than roasted malt alone. Whether the final beer leans toward creamy chocolate, toasted coconut, ripe banana or barrel-derived warmth remains to be seen.

Stay tuned to MyBeerBuzz.com for more details on Evil Twin Barrel-Aged Cuvée De Candy Bars, including release information and tasting notes as they become available.

About Evil Twin Brewing

Evil Twin Brewing has built its name around adventurous beer, unconventional flavor combinations and a willingness to challenge the boundaries of traditional brewing. What began as a nomadic brewing project in 2010 eventually developed into Evil Twin Brewing NYC, an independent brewery rooted in Queens, New York. Founded by Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø, the project grew from an approach that allowed its founder to work with different brewing facilities before establishing a permanent home in New York City.

The New York brewery opened a new chapter for Evil Twin, giving the team greater control over recipes, production and the development of new beers. Its home in Ridgewood, Queens, provides a base for experimental brewing while maintaining connections with the wider craft beer community through collaborations and rotating releases.

Evil Twin Brewing NYC is known for beers that move beyond conventional styles. Its lineup has included hazy IPAs, fruited sour ales, oak-aged lagers, pastry-inspired beverages and barrel-aged imperial stouts, with new releases allowing the brewery to explore different ingredients, brewing techniques and flavor profiles. That range makes Evil Twin an interesting name for craft beer drinkers who enjoy exploring beers that are less predictable than a standard lineup of pale ales and lagers.

Barrel-aged imperial stouts are a particularly good fit for this experimental approach. These beers typically use a substantial malt base to develop dark chocolate, roasted grain, coffee and caramel notes, while barrel aging can introduce additional flavors and complexity depending on the type of barrel and the time spent aging. Brewers can then build on that foundation with ingredients such as vanilla, cocoa, coconut, fruit or other dessert-inspired additions.

The new Barrel-Aged Cuvée De Candy Bars Imperial Stout follows that general direction, combining a strong imperial stout base with banana and conditioning ingredients that include chocolate, coconut, cocoa and vanilla. At 14.8% ABV, it is a powerful beer designed for drinkers who enjoy rich, full-bodied stouts and unusual flavor combinations. The candy bar inspiration gives the release an immediately recognizable theme, while the combination of ingredients offers a different take on the familiar chocolate-forward stout.

Evil Twin’s brewing philosophy also extends to its taproom experience. The brewery operates a Ridgewood location in Queens and a satellite taproom in DUMBO, Brooklyn, giving visitors opportunities to explore rotating draft selections and sample beers directly from the brewery. The taprooms offer a mix of styles, including barrel-aged dark beers, hazy IPAs, sour ales and lagers, reflecting the brewery’s interest in both experimentation and traditional brewing.

Collaboration has played a part in Evil Twin’s development, with the brewery embracing opportunities to work with other brewers and participate in the broader craft beer community. This willingness to experiment and collaborate has helped establish Evil Twin as a recognizable name among fans of creative American craft beer.

For consumers, one of the attractions of Evil Twin Brewing is the variety of experiences its beers can offer. A hop-forward IPA provides a very different drinking experience from a barrel-aged imperial stout, while a fruited sour can take the brewery in another direction entirely. That variety allows the brewery to reach drinkers with different preferences without relying on a single style.

Evil Twin Brewing continues to operate from its New York base, producing beers that reflect an interest in distinctive recipes, bold concepts and creative presentation. Its releases often attract attention through unusual names, imaginative packaging and ingredient combinations that invite curiosity before the first pour.
