Founders Water Hazard Zero Sugar expands the brewery’s golf-inspired cocktail lineup

Founders Brewing Company is bringing a new zero-sugar option to its popular Water Hazard cocktail lineup, announcing that Founders Water Hazard Zero Sugar will debut at the brewery’s taproom on Friday, October 30, 2026, before expanding into retail distribution across 11 states in November. The new release builds on the original blue, golf-inspired Water Hazard cocktail introduced in March, maintaining its bright citrus character while eliminating sugar and keeping the calorie count at just 100 per serving.

Fans asked. Founders listened. According to the brewery, one of the most frequent questions following the original Water Hazard launch was whether a zero-sugar version would eventually become available, and Founders Water Hazard Zero Sugar is the direct answer. The new cocktail retains the familiar blue appearance and citrus-inspired flavor of the original, offering an alternative for drinkers who enjoy Water Hazard but prefer a ready-to-drink cocktail without sugar. With 100 calories per serving, the new release also gives Founders another option within the growing market for convenient, lower-sugar canned alcoholic beverages.

The upcoming Founders Water Hazard Zero Sugar will arrive in six-packs, with its initial October 30 taproom release followed by November retail availability in Georgia, Illinois, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin, New York, Massachusetts and Texas. For Water Hazard fans outside Michigan, the broader distribution rollout provides an opportunity to try the new version without visiting the brewery. Same recognizable blue cocktail, a different nutritional profile. Founders has not provided additional information about pricing or an exact November retail launch date, so availability will depend on individual markets and participating retailers.

The following official announcement from Founders Brewing Company provides the details on Water Hazard Zero Sugar, its 100-calorie citrus-inspired recipe, October 30 taproom debut and upcoming November distribution across 11 states.

Official announcement from Founder is below:

It’s the Water Hazard you know and love with none of the sugar! Since launching Water Hazard last March there has been a wave of excitement for our new, blue golf inspired cocktail. The big question we kept getting was, when are you going to make a zero sugar version? Don’t worry, we heard you!

Now you can get in the drink with all the flavor you love, but none of the sugar. Bright, blue citrus and incredibly thirst quenching just like the original cocktail, with zero sugar and only 100 calories to keep you feeling refreshed. When it comes to taste, Water Hazard Zero Sugar doesn’t compromise.

Water Hazard Zero Sugar 6-Packs will be available in our taproom this Friday 10/30 and on shelves near you this November!

(Available in GA, IL, FL, IN, MI, OH, KY, WI, NY, MA, TX)

We’ve been following Founders Brewing Company’s expansion beyond traditional craft beer here at MyBeerBuzz, including our original February 2026 coverage of Founders announcing its first vodka-based cocktail, Water Hazard, which introduced the bright blue, golf-inspired cocktail at 5% ABV. Readers can also explore our coverage of Founders Hoppy Mood Hop Water, another example of the brewery exploring alternatives to traditional beer, along with Founders expanding its Nonetheless non-alcoholic lineup with Hazy IPA and the return of Founders Oktoberfest alongside Nonetheless Oktoberfest. These releases offer additional background on Founders’ growing beverage portfolio and its approach to providing more drinking options.

About Founders Brewing Company – Grand Rapids, Michigan

Founders Brewing Company is an established American craft brewery based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, recognized for producing influential India Pale Ales, barrel-aged imperial stouts, session beers and an expanding collection of alternative beverages. Founded in 1997 by Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers, Founders developed its reputation through a commitment to brewing flavorful, distinctive beers that helped shape the modern American craft beer industry.

The brewery’s early years were anything but easy. Operating from a modest downtown Grand Rapids facility, Founders struggled financially before shifting its focus toward brewing more distinctive beers that reflected the interests of its founders and brewing team.

That decision helped establish the company’s identity and eventually led to the development of several nationally recognized craft beer brands.

Founders All Day IPA and flagship beers

Among the brewery’s most successful products is Founders All Day IPA, a session India Pale Ale that helped establish a broader market for flavorful, lower-alcohol craft beers.

All Day IPA combines recognizable hop character with an approachable drinking profile, making it one of the brewery’s most important year-round releases.

Founders Centennial IPA represents another established part of its portfolio, delivering a more traditional American IPA experience built around Centennial hops.

The brewery also developed a strong following through beers such as Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale, Porter, Breakfast Stout and its popular Kentucky Breakfast Stout, commonly known as KBS.

KBS became particularly influential within the barrel-aged beer category, combining coffee, chocolate and bourbon barrel-aging to create a rich imperial stout that helped introduce many American beer drinkers to the possibilities of specialty barrel-aged brewing.

Over time, Founders expanded the KBS family through additional variations and limited releases, allowing the brewery to explore new ingredients while maintaining the recognizable identity of its original barrel-aged stout.

Founders Water Hazard and ready-to-drink cocktails

Founders Brewing Company expanded its beverage portfolio in 2026 with the introduction of Water Hazard, its first vodka-based ready-to-drink cocktail.

Inspired by a familiar golf course cocktail, the original Water Hazard combines a distinctive bright blue appearance with refreshing citrus-inspired flavors and a 5% ABV profile.

The original cocktail was introduced in March 2026, giving Founders another opportunity to reach consumers interested in convenient packaged alcoholic beverages beyond traditional beer.

Following requests from customers, Founders announced Water Hazard Zero Sugar, a new variation designed to retain the recognizable blue citrus character of the original while eliminating sugar.

The new Founders Water Hazard Zero Sugar contains 100 calories per serving and will initially become available in six-packs at the brewery’s taproom on October 30, 2026.

Retail distribution is scheduled to follow in November across 11 states, including Michigan, Illinois, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin, New York, Massachusetts and Texas.

The addition of Water Hazard Zero Sugar demonstrates Founders’ interest in expanding established beverage brands through new recipes and consumer-requested variations.

Founders Brewing innovation and expansion

Beyond Water Hazard, Founders has continued developing products that provide alternatives to conventional alcoholic craft beer.

Its Hoppy Mood Hop Water offers a non-alcoholic beverage featuring hop-derived flavors, while the Nonetheless collection introduces additional non-alcoholic beer options.

These releases complement the brewery’s established IPA, lager, stout and seasonal beer offerings.

Founders operates as part of Mahou USA, following its longstanding relationship with Spanish brewing company Mahou San Miguel and subsequent integration with Avery Brewing Company.

The Grand Rapids brewery continues maintaining its Michigan identity while producing beverages for distribution across numerous American markets.

Its original connection to the city remains visible through its Grand Rapids taproom, brewery operations and established relationship with Michigan’s craft beer community.

From All Day IPA and KBS to Water Hazard and Water Hazard Zero Sugar, Founders continues developing new products while maintaining the recognizable beers that helped establish its reputation.
