Upslope Fast + Light IPA Brings a 2.8% ABV Twist to Craft Beer

Upslope Brewing Company is taking its India pale ale in a lighter direction, and the numbers on the can make this one worth a closer look. The Denver, Colorado, brewery is introducing the Fast + Light Series IPA, a low-alcohol craft beer that checks in at just 2.8% ABV and comes packaged in 12-ounce cans.

That is a pretty significant change from the stronger IPAs that have dominated craft beer shelves for years. And honestly, not every beer needs to push the alcohol percentage higher.

Upslope Fast + Light IPA Keeps Things Light

The new Upslope Fast + Light IPA is part of a series built around a simple idea: a hand-crafted beer that offers a lighter drinking option without abandoning the familiar appeal of craft brewing. At 2.8% alcohol by volume, this India pale ale sits well below the strength of many traditional American IPAs, giving drinkers another option when they want something lighter.

The beer will be brewed with snowmelt, according to the information printed on the can label. Snowmelt has been part of Upslope’s identity for years, connecting its brewing approach with Colorado’s mountain environment and the outdoor lifestyle that has helped define the brand.

The ingredient list printed on the Fast + Light IPA label also includes malt, hops and yeast. These are the familiar building blocks of beer, although the final balance of malt character, hop aroma, bitterness and body will determine how this particular low-alcohol IPA drinks.

There is still plenty we don’t know about the finished beer. Upslope has not provided detailed tasting notes, an IBU figure or a specific hop variety for this announcement, so it would be premature to promise a particular citrus, pine or tropical fruit profile. Those details can wait until the beer is available to taste.

A 2.8% ABV IPA Is an Interesting Move

Low-alcohol craft beer has a practical appeal. Some drinkers want the flavor and variety associated with craft beer but prefer a lower-alcohol option, and a 2.8% ABV IPA gives breweries an opportunity to serve that audience without switching to a nonalcoholic product.

The challenge is getting the balance right. Alcohol contributes to the body and overall impression of beer, so brewing a satisfying IPA at a lower strength can require careful attention to malt character, hop expression, fermentation and mouthfeel. A lower ABV alone does not guarantee a great beer.

That’s where the Fast + Light Series will have to make its case.

An IPA is generally associated with hop character, but the style covers a wide range of interpretations. Whether this new Upslope release leans toward bright citrus, restrained bitterness or a softer malt profile remains to be seen. For now, the 2.8% ABV figure is the clearest point of difference. The beer will also roll in with 80n calories and 2g carbs per 12-oz serving.

Twelve-Ounce Cans for a Convenient Format

Upslope Fast + Light IPA will be packaged in 12-ounce cans, according to the supplied product information and label. Aluminum cans fit the brewery’s established approach to portable packaging, making the beer easy to carry for a cookout, a day outdoors or a casual gathering.

The format is familiar, but the alcohol content is what separates this release from a conventional full-strength IPA. It gives consumers another choice within the increasingly varied craft beer category, where session beers, low-alcohol releases and nonalcoholic alternatives all offer different ways to approach beer.

The name Fast + Light communicates the idea without much explanation. It suggests a beer designed around a lighter profile rather than maximum strength, although the actual drinking experience will be the deciding factor.

When Will Upslope Fast + Light IPA Be Released?

For now, specific release timing and distribution details have not been confirmed in the information available for this announcement. Availability, pricing and the possibility of a broader rollout remain details to watch.

Upslope Brewing Company has built its identity around approachable craft beer, portable cans and Colorado-inspired ingredients. This new 2.8% ABV IPA takes that familiar foundation in a different direction, offering a lighter alternative for people who still want an IPA in their beer rotation.

The question is whether Fast + Light can deliver the hop character and balance drinkers expect from the style at such a modest strength. That’s what will make this release interesting once cans begin showing up.

Sometimes less really is more. And with a 2.8% ABV IPA, the proof will be in the pour.

Stay tuned to MyBeerBuzz.com for additional details on the Upslope Fast + Light Series IPA, including release timing, availability and tasting information as it becomes available.

About Upslope Brewing Company

Upslope Brewing Company is a Colorado craft beer brand known for its hand-crafted ales, lagers, canned beverages and connection to the state’s outdoor lifestyle. Founded in Boulder, Colorado, in 2008, Upslope developed its identity around producing approachable beer for people who enjoy spending time outside, whether that means hiking, skiing, camping, fishing or simply getting together with friends after a long day.

The brewery was founded by Matt Cutter, Henry Wood and Dany Page, who brought their shared interest in brewing to Colorado and built a company around the idea that quality beer should be portable, enjoyable and suited to an active lifestyle. Over the years, Upslope has established a recognizable presence in Colorado’s craft beer market, with a range of traditional styles and experimental releases.

One of the company’s defining characteristics is its use of snowmelt as a brewing ingredient. Snowmelt, premium malt, hops and brewer’s yeast feature in the brewery’s description of its approach to beer production. The connection to Colorado’s mountain environment has become part of the Upslope identity, helping distinguish the brand from breweries whose stories are based primarily on traditional brewing regions or narrowly defined beer styles.

Packaging has also played an important role in the company’s approach. Upslope has long emphasized aluminum cans, which are portable and convenient for outdoor activities. Canned beer is easy to transport, chill and share, making it a natural fit for the brewery’s emphasis on taking craft beer beyond the taproom and into everyday experiences.

Upslope’s beer portfolio has included familiar craft styles such as India pale ale, pale ale, craft lager and Kölsch, alongside seasonal offerings and limited releases. Its IPA range gives hop-focused beer drinkers a traditional point of entry, while lighter beers and other styles help broaden the selection for consumers with different preferences.

The introduction of the Fast + Light Series IPA continues that range of choices. At 2.8% alcohol by volume, the new India pale ale offers a lower-alcohol alternative to many conventional IPAs. The beer’s label lists snowmelt, malt, hops and yeast, and identifies the product as part of the Fast + Light Series. It is packaged in 12-ounce cans, keeping the format consistent with the brand’s established focus on convenient canned beverages.

Low-alcohol craft beer presents its own brewing challenges, particularly when a beer is expected to retain the character associated with a hop-forward style. Alcohol content, body, malt balance and hop expression all influence the finished product. A successful lighter IPA needs to provide an enjoyable drinking experience rather than relying on a low ABV figure alone. Fast + Light gives Upslope an opportunity to explore that balance in a distinct product line.

The company’s history has also included changes in ownership and operations. In November 2025, Wilding Brands announced its acquisition of Upslope Brewing, with subsequent reporting describing plans to transfer beverage production to Wilding’s Denver facility while the original Boulder taprooms remained under separate management. That development is part of the more recent story surrounding the brand and its place in Colorado’s evolving craft beer industry.

For consumers interested in the brewery’s current offerings, background and product information, the official website remains the best starting point. Visit Upslope Brewing Company to explore its beers, learn about the company’s story and find official updates.

From traditional ales and lagers to newer releases such as the Fast + Light Series IPA, Upslope Brewing Company continues to represent a recognizable part of Colorado’s craft beer history. Its combination of canned beer, outdoor-inspired branding and a broad range of styles gives the brewery room to appeal to established IPA drinkers and people looking for something a little lighter.
