Today brings an early look at a returning favorite from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, Delaware. The brewery has announced that its Flesh & Blood India Pale Ale, first brewed in 2016, will make a comeback in 2027 as part of the Small Batch Series. This vibrant, citrus‑driven IPA will remain at 7.5 percent ABV and return in 12 ounce cans (and kegs), bringing back one of Dogfish Head’s most distinctive and flavorful creations.

Flesh & Blood IPA has always been a standout in Dogfish Head’s lineup, a beer that perfectly captures the brewery’s culinary‑inspired approach to brewing. It’s crafted with real orange peel, lemon flesh, and blood orange juice, creating a layered citrus profile that balances bright fruit character with assertive hop bitterness. The result is a beer that feels both refreshing and complex, a perfect expression of Dogfish Head’s adventurous spirit.

Label Text Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood:

“An honest to goodness India Pale Ale brewed with a bevy of real orange peel, lemon flesh and blood orange juice.

“We brew our culinary inspired beers using real ingredients. Every beer has a story rooted in adventurous flavors and creative brewing processes. Explore the goodness with every sip.“

A Citrus IPA That Defined a Generation of Flavor

When Flesh & Blood IPA first debuted, it represented a turning point for Dogfish Head’s approach to hop‑forward beers. Rather than relying solely on hops for bitterness and aroma, the brewery incorporated real fruit ingredients to create a more natural, balanced flavor experience. The combination of orange peel, lemon flesh, and blood orange juice gives the beer a bright, juicy character that complements its bold hop backbone.

The beer pours a deep golden orange with a dense white head, releasing aromas of citrus zest, tropical fruit, and subtle pine. On the palate, the interplay between sweet fruit and bitter hops creates a dynamic flavor profile that evolves with each sip. The finish is crisp, slightly tart, and refreshingly dry, a hallmark of Dogfish Head’s precision brewing.

A Return to the Small Batch Series

The Small Batch Series has become a showcase for Dogfish Head’s creativity, offering limited releases that highlight innovation and craftsmanship. The return of Flesh & Blood IPA in 2027 signals the brewery’s commitment to revisiting fan favorites while continuing to explore new flavor territory. This release will likely appeal to longtime fans who remember the original as well as new drinkers discovering Dogfish Head’s citrus‑infused IPA for the first time.

The 12 ounce cans make the beer more accessible for outdoor events, festivals, and casual gatherings. Its 7.5 percent ABV ensures a full‑bodied experience without overwhelming the palate, making it ideal for warm weather sipping or pairing with food.

Perfect Pairings and Occasions

Flesh & Blood IPA pairs beautifully with seafood, grilled chicken, spicy tacos, and citrus‑based desserts. The beer’s bright acidity and fruit character enhance dishes with similar flavors, while its hop bitterness cuts through rich or spicy foods. It’s equally enjoyable on its own, a beer that invites conversation and appreciation for craftsmanship.

Whether enjoyed at the beach, around a campfire, or at a brewery tasting room, Flesh & Blood IPA embodies the adventurous, flavor‑driven ethos that defines Dogfish Head.

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is one of America’s most innovative and influential craft breweries, founded in 1995 in Milton, Delaware by Sam Calagione. The brewery built its reputation on creativity, experimentation, and a fearless approach to flavor. Dogfish Head’s philosophy centers on brewing “off‑centered ales for off‑centered people,” a mantra that has guided its evolution from a small brewpub to a nationally recognized leader in craft beer.

Dogfish Head is known for its culinary‑inspired brewing style, using real ingredients and unconventional techniques to create beers that challenge expectations. From the groundbreaking 60 Minute IPA, 90 Minute IPA, and 120 Minute IPA to experimental releases like SeaQuench Ale, Midas Touch, and The Perfect Disguise, the brewery consistently pushes boundaries while maintaining a focus on quality and drinkability.

Its commitment to real ingredients is evident in beers like Flesh & Blood IPA, where fruit, spice, and natural flavor are integral to the recipe. Dogfish Head’s innovation extends beyond beer into spirits, collaborations, and sustainability initiatives. The brewery operates a distillery, a restaurant, and a hotel, all designed to celebrate craft culture and community.

Dogfish Head’s partnership with The Boston Beer Company has expanded its reach while preserving its independent spirit. Together, they continue to champion creativity, authenticity, and the art of brewing.

Today, Dogfish Head remains a cornerstone of American craft beer, recognized for its bold flavors, storytelling, and dedication to brewing excellence. The return of Flesh & Blood IPA in 2027 exemplifies everything the brewery stands for — adventurous flavor, real ingredients, and a passion for pushing the limits of what beer can be.
