Short’s Brewing to Open Third Location in Traverse City, Michigan
Northern Michigan business leaders join forces to resurrect local landmark
Once a bustling hub of shopping and dining, Logan’s Landing East is about to get a new lease on life as the minds behind Short’s Brewing and Keen Energy INC step up to redevelop the marquee property.
Scott Newman-Bale, CEO/Partner of Short’s Brewing and Joe Short, founder and owner of Short’s Brewing have teamed up with Keen co-founders Tim Pulliam and Steve Morse have agreed to purchase Logan’s Landing East under the newly-formed partnership South Boardman Lake District, LLC.
“Tim and I have known each other for a long time and we’ve talked about working together.Recently, I’ve been joining mountain bike rides where he talks about the trails, city, and how the Boardman loop is this hub for connection and community. Logan’s Landing is right in the middle of it!” stated Joe Short. “It seems we’ve got a soft spot for rickety buildings with lots of potential…twenty five years ago I peered into the windows of an old hardware store in Bellaire and could envision the Pub. A few months ago, I did it again at Logan’s and could imagine how the space would look and feel as a Short’s Brewing Company space on the water.”
“We were looking for the right partners to take on a project this crazy.” stated Tim Pulliam, partner at Keen Energy, “Joe and Scott are very tenacious business partners, are heavily invested in the area, and are known for making the impossible happen. We share the same vision of community and see this as a real opportunity to make something great.”
The goal for the redevelopment of the nearly 16,000 square foot space is to reconfigure the location and revitalize the space, working with the township, community, and neighbors to develop a long-term plan for the mixed-use development.
The former owner, Vincent Amroian of Vince’s Fine Jewelers plans to stay. Short’s Brewing will act as an anchor tenant, opening up their third location as soon as April 2027. If you’ve been to the Bellaire Beer Garden, you’ve got a taste of what’s to come: awesome food, award-winning craft brews, live music, and events.
“When Short’s opened in Bellaire, we had a field of dreams approach—if we build it, they will come—because we were in such a rural, out-of-the-way location. With Logan’s, we’re in the heart of Traverse City where it just makes sense to have a spot.” said Scott Newman-Bale. “We hope to engage with many new faces in a higher traffic area. We’re honored to be able to do our thing in yet another amazing northern Michigan community, especially one I call home.”

About Short’s Brewing Company
Located in the heart of Northern Michigan, Joe Short opened the Short’s Brewing Pub in 2004 in Bellaire, Michigan. Short quickly made a name for himself by producing fearlessly creative, and wildly experimental brews, drawing folks from far and wide to experience his innovative libations. Driven by demand for their flagship IPA, Huma Lupa Licious, Short’s Brewing opened a production facility in neighboring Elk Rapids and began bottling products in 2009; a second year-round tap room was added to the location in 2021. Today, Short’s Brewing is Michigan’s largest independent craft brewery and is known for products like Local’s Light American Lager, Huma Lupa Licious, Soft Parade Fruit Ale, and Thirst Mutilator Hop Water. Short’s is known for their commitment to community and supports many local and regional non-profit organizations like Paddle Antrim, Up North Pride, Glacial Hills, and the TART Trails Nakwema Trailways project. The brewery is a proud supporter of Michigan music, and hosts family-friendly, free shows all summer at the Elk Rapids Pull Barn and in the Bellaire Beer Garden across from the Pub.
