Exciting news coming from Chuckanut Brewery in Burlington, Washington:

Chuckanut Brewery and Aslan Brewing are pleased to announce their West Coast Pils Collaboration will be out in the markets in both draft and cans. Chuckanut has been good friends since Aslan opened in 2014, six years after Chuckanut was established in Bellingham. Brewing with friends is always fun and making the West Coast Pils brought the two breweries together for a great NW beer style. West Coast Pils is the lagered cousin of the popular West Coast IPA. A special tapping will take place September 10 at 5 pm at the Aslan Depot (1322 N State St, Bellingham) at 5pm.

This beer showcases a star studded list of hops with its juice bar, grapefruit and lychee aromas and flavors in a crisp golden lager. Kettle hops include Spalt, Amarillo and Centennial plus it’s dry-hopped with Cryo-Mosaic, Strata and Comet. The West Coast Pils is a hoppy bright beer that’s great on its own or paired with Shrimp Scampi or a spicy Thai dish like Green Papaya Salad.

Brewing the West Coast Pils at the Chuckanut Brewery in Skagit at the Port of Skagit on the original brew system that was in Bellingham brought back lots of memories. The small 10bbl system was in Chuckanut’s original North Nut Brewery & Kitchen for 13 years until Chuckanut closed that location and moved the little brewhouse system to storage waiting for their expansion project was reinstalled in Skagit. Just this year, in spring 2025, the system was re-installed and brewing again. This 10bbl system saw many brewers working alongside Will Kemper, Chuckanut’s Brewmaster, who went on to make their own breweries including Josh Pfriem (Pfriem Family Brewers), Kevin Davey (was Wayfinder now Gold Dot/Heater Allen), Bryan Cardwell (Structures) and others. Besides this West Coast Pils Collab many more will follow including CBGB Dark Czech Lager (collab with Austin Beer Garden Brewery ABGB), American Pilsner (collab with Breakside Brewing), New Zealand Pilsner with famed bottleshop Special Brews, Baltic Porter (collab with Bierstadt and Bagby Beer) among others. Stay tuned for these and other collab beers coming out of Chuckanut Brewery and make sure to try them.

West Coast Pils Chuckanut/Aslan Collaboration will be available at Chuckanut’s South Nut Tap Room, and the four Aslan locations (Aslan Brewpub and Aslan Depot in Bellingham as well as Aslan Fremont and Aslan Tangeltown). West Coast Pils cans and draft can also be found in various specialty grocers and bottleshops around the Northwest and Portland, OR. Try West Coast Pils

Chuckanut Brewery brews award winning Lagers and Ales and has won Large Brewery of the Year at WA Beer Awards 2017, 2019 and 2021 and Small Brewery at the GABF 2009 & 2011. The production facility and Tap Room is in Skagit Valley at 11937 Higgins Airport Way, Burlington, WA. Chuckanut welcomes guests of all ages and has indoor and outdoor seating! The Kempers and the Birth of Chuckanut Brewery

The story of Chuckanut Brewery is inextricably linked to the pioneering spirit of Mari and Will Kemper, two individuals who have indelibly shaped the landscape of American craft beer. Their journey began in the 1980s when they co-founded Thomas Kemper Brewery, a seminal force in the Northwest’s burgeoning craft beer scene. This venture marked the beginning of their lifelong passion for brewing and a testament to their entrepreneurial spirit.

Following their time at Thomas Kemper, the Kempers embarked on a series of adventures that would further solidify their expertise in the industry. Will became a sought-after consultant, helping to establish breweries across the country and even internationally. This period of exploration and knowledge-gathering proved invaluable for the couple, exposing them to diverse brewing techniques and cultural influences.

Their travels eventually brought them back to their roots in the Pacific Northwest. With a wealth of experience and a shared dream, Mari and Will founded Chuckanut Brewery in 2008. The brewery quickly gained recognition for its unwavering commitment to traditional European brewing methods, particularly lagers, a style often overlooked in the craft beer landscape. Through their dedication to quality and innovation, Chuckanut Brewery has become a cornerstone of the Washington brewing scene and a global ambassador for the art of lager making.

The Kemper’s journey is a testament to their enduring passion for beer, their entrepreneurial drive, and their unwavering belief in the power of craftsmanship. Chuckanut Brewery is not merely a business; it is a culmination of their lifelong pursuit of brewing excellence.

Chuckanut Brewery, located in Bellingham, Washington, is known for its dedication to lagers and high-quality craft beers. Owners Mari and Will Kemper founded the brewery in 2008, with a focus on creating exceptional beer in welcoming environments. They are particularly known for their expertise in crafting various lager styles.
