About Appalachian Barrel Company:

Appalachian Barrel Company is a Kentucky-based bourbon brand founded by three individuals with deep roots in Eastern Kentucky, aiming to tell the story of the mountains through their bourbon. They craft their bourbon with pride, following both time-honored traditions and a modern sensibility. In contrast, the West Virginia Great Barrel Company (WV GBC) is a high-tech cooperage in West Virginia, established to do better for the community by making high-quality barrels from Appalachian oak using advanced technology and automation.

Appalachian Barrel Company
Focus: Crafting and bottling authentic Kentucky bourbon.

Heritage: Deeply rooted in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, with their story of the mountains and community woven into their brand.

Process: Combines traditional craftsmanship with modern practices, focusing on quality, patience, and pride in their heritage.

West Virginia Great Barrel Company (The Barrel Maker)
Focus:
Manufacturing high-quality whiskey barrels.

Location:
Based in Caldwell, West Virginia, with a mission to create good-paying jobs for the local community.

Materials:
Utilizes tight-grained Appalachian white oak, which offers desirable flavor characteristics due to slow growth in the rugged environment.

Technology:
Employs cutting-edge technology, including infrared toasting and automated processes, to ensure consistency and precision in barrel production.

Mission:
To be a valuable partner for distillers by providing high-performing, high-quality barrels and promoting the idea that barrels and whiskey are more than just commodities.

Rooted in the Mountains. Refined in the Bluegrass. This is Bourbon the Appalachian Way.
At Appalachian Barrel Company, our story is deeply rooted in the rugged hills of Eastern Kentucky, where generations before us cut oak, hauled water, and shared whiskey beneath the same skies that crown today’s Appalachian Mountains. We are three founders—bound by blood, friendship, and the bourbon-soaked soil of our homeland. Our families have called these mountains home for generations, and that heritage informs every barrel we bottle. Though our Kentucky bourbon is crafted in the heart of the Bluegrass, it is the spirit of Appalachia that runs through everything we do. We built Appalachian Barrel Company to create more than just great bourbon—we’re telling a story. A story of the mountains, of community, of deep oak and even deeper pride. We honor the traditions passed down through time, but we craft our spirits with a modern sensibility that’s rooted in quality and patience. From the forest to the rickhouse, our process is shaped by a commitment to excellence that mirrors the enduring strength of our Appalachian roots.

Our bourbons are aged slow, touched by the unique climate of Kentucky’s Bluegrass region, and guided by the commitment to do things the right way. This is bourbon made with patience, passion, and pride—a reflection of where we come from and who we are, including our exclusive private single barrel selections.
