Split Thy Skull Beloved Beer Event Returns at Doom Bar For 2025

This Sunday is the return of Split Thy Skull, a beloved beer event originally taking place at Sugar Moms and then Tattooed Moms! Doom Bar and Home Brewed Events have partnered up to bring the event back to life and raise money for Circular Philadelphia. Circular Philadelphia: Instead of the traditional “take-make-waste” model, where we extract materials, use them once, and throw them away, Circular Philadelphia promotes a “circular economy”, a system where nothing goes to waste. Think of it like nature: fallen leaves become soil that feeds new growth, creating an endless cycle. In a circular economy, products are designed to last longer, be repaired easily, and have their materials recovered and reused when they reach the end of their life. A broken phone gets refurbished rather than tossed. Food scraps become compost for urban gardens. Construction waste becomes material for new buildings. Circular Philadelphia works to transform our city into a place where everyone (individuals, businesses, manufacturers, institutions, local government, and policymakers) collaborates to keep resources flowing in productive cycles. We support local initiatives that reduce waste, create green jobs, and build a more just and resilient Philadelphia.

Philadelphia, PA- The reimagined Split Thy Skull festival is a showcase of the gnarliest beverages in the world: intense mezcal, imperial stouts, funky rums, super hoppy beers, bitter amari, and so many more, with support from local artists and a soundtrack of pure metal! 

Carrying on the spirit of the original beloved barleywine festival, originally started at Sugar Mom’s in 1995, Split Thy Skull moved to Tattooed Mom for many years until it ended in 2017. With the official blessing of Tattooed Mom, Doom and Home Brewed Events have come together for the reemergence of Split Thy Skull. This ticketed event will be held on Sunday, August 24th (2pm to 4:30pm) and raise money for Circular Philadelphia. Circular Philadelphia’s mission of focusing on policy advocacy to promote true recycling, improving food systems to minimize waste, and reuse of building materials and textiles closely aligns with Doom’s goals to be as sustainable as possible in a business that typically leads to very high amounts of food waste and landfill material. The kitchen will be open and serving up the usual spicy and satisfying food to help soak up some booze. And don’t forget about the riffs. DJ Double Hockey Sticks will be supplying the all-vinyl heavy metal soundtrack. 

For an additional opportunity to be a part of the festivities, the featured beverages will be available pay-as-you-go from 5pm to 8pm in honor of the original format for Split Thy Skull at Tattooed Moms (and Sugar Moms). The half pours will be available for $6 a piece and limited to what is available following the ticketed portion.
