Today I have some exciting collaboration news coming from Double Mountain in Hood River, Oregon:

We Are Having a Squonk of a Time Over Here!

We teamed up with our hop-slingin’ buddies at Single Hill Brewing, located in Yakima, Washington (aka the Palm Springs of the PNW) to bring you something new, juicy, and downright delicious, All Squonk, No Tonk NW Juicy IPA!

We had such a fantastic time with Single Hill last year at the Fresh Hop Rodeo, we had to invite them to collaborate with us this year. They run a tight ship and make some fantastic beers. With close ties to the hop industry, a pulse on the latest processes and techniques, and a highly intelligent and capable crew, this brewery is putting out some of the best beer in the PNW. Besides us…of course:)

For this beer, we went with a style that we wanted to drink. It’s a PNW take on a Juicy IPA. It’s lower in ABV, but pops the aromas, focusing on the ripe citrus. Most of this is from the hops, but the backbone here is from the yeast. The house Kviek we use is pushing an insane amount of ripe pineapple right now, and it paired perfectly with the Columbus, Loral, Mosaic, and Citra. Cascade got invited too. The result is a PNW take on a Juicy; high on the ripe citrus aromas, with some resinous yellow fruit and a hint of evergreen. Just how we like it. And with that lower ABV, it’s set for a good one to tip back a few while hanging with friends down by the river.

What does Squonk mean, you ask? Well, you’ll know it when you’re doing it. It’s going all in. It’s feeling froggy. It’s shooting the shit with friends. It’s having an epic ride on a bike, board, or skis. Defines a level of stoke. Make it what you want. It’s fun, silly, and creative. It’s creating pellets out of fresh hops with a bolo tie and your boots on. Nobody puts Squonk in a box. We can put it in a keg and bottle, though.

Don’t get us wrong. We like a good Tonk, too. Outlaw Country plays regularly in the brewery, and at least half of our brewers show up in their shit kickers. We’re just having some fun with words and phrases here. The accompanying playlist is a banger of Outlaw and 90’s country. It’s rad.

LISTEN TO THE PLAYLIST HERE!

If you are ever in the Palm Springs of Washington, stop by Single Hill. The vibe is awesome, the beers are on point, and they’ve got a rotating food cart and delicious coffee to boot. Just do it.

ABOUT US
Established in 2007, Double Mountain stands by the belief of creating great beers and ciders that everyone will enjoy. We are a “Brewer’s Brewery”, creating beers and ciders that we love to drink. Our beers are unfiltered and long-aged, delivering complex, assertive, and balanced character. Situated in the adventurous town of Hood River, at the base of Mt. Hood, on the Columbia River, Double Mountain embraces a healthy outdoor culture with a deep community environment. Championing sustainability, we are pioneering refillable bottles in Oregon and house 25,000 sq. ft. of solar panels, pushing for a sustainable future. As the Hood River locals’ brewery, approachable staff, authenticity, community, and an affable atmosphere fill the brewery, highlighted by amazing beer, cider, and pizza.

EST 2007
On St. Patrick’s Day 2007, Double Mountain Brewery & Cidery opened to the public. Founded by Matt Swihart and Charlie Devereaux, the pair had the vision to bring amazing beer and pizza to downtown Hood River.  Needless to say, the brewery hit the ground running.

Matt & Charlie met years ago while working at Full Sail Brewery. Sharing a common bond of good beer and food, in a wild and exciting location, the Columbia Gorge, they quickly became friends. Eventually, Charlie departed Full Sail, while Matt remained, rising to the Assistant Brewmaster position in 1999. Keeping in touch over beers became more frequent, and so did the pondering of each other’s next move. Finallly, in 2007 they joined forces creating Double Mountain. In June of 2013, Matt purchased Charlie’s shares of Double Mountain, continuing the good work they created.

MAKING MOVES
As the years progressed, Double Mountain has expanded to grow apples & cherries, press fruit, and create cider. Coming about after the purchase of a 25,000 sq ft warehouse, allowed cider and sustainable practices to come into the forefront.

Partnering with Oregon Bottle Drop, Double Mountain bottles are refillable (reuseable), which is the most sustainable package for beer or cider.  In 2018, the brewery added 25,000 sq ft of solar panels to the roof of our warehouse, making Double Mountain a Net-Zero building for years to come.

Rest-assured, Double Mountain will continue to be at the forefront of beer and cider production, sustainability, and good times.

Double Mountain is a Brewery & Cidery based in Hood River, Oregon that extends a warm welcome to all. Our brewery in Hood River boasts our original taproom where you can experience the heart of our craft. We have two additional taprooms in Portland, located in the Woodstock and Overlook neighborhoods, and a kitchen at the Aladdin theater, open during showtimes.  We strive to create a living room atmosphere, where we spin vinyl, offer weekly free live music, and host trivia nights. Our food philosophy revolves around sharing moments with friends. We offer various New Haven-style pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and an array of other dishes that proudly steer clear of the fryer. We take pride in our hop-forward beers, crisp unsweetened dry-ciders, and house-made n/a root beer and ginger ale. We hope you’ll stop by and share a pint with us!

Double Mountain may be found on tap and in refillable bottles throughout the Pacific Northwest.
