Molson Coors doubling production of canned water for disaster relief

From Miller Coors &  Nick Kindelsperger,

Helping those affected by natural disasters has been integral to Molson Coors for years. That’s why since 2017, the company has produced more than 3 million cans of bottled water for those recovering from hurricanes, wildfires, floods and other emergencies.

With natural disaster instances increasing, the company decided to make its biggest commitment, doubling its annual canned water output to 830,000 cans.

According to Senior Manager of Community Affairs Michael Nordman, the increase will allow the company to help those in need.

“When a natural disaster strikes, one of the first needs is access to safe, clean drinking water. That’s why we’re growing our capacity to help this year,” said Nordman. “By doubling our canned water production, we will be able to respond to the increasing number of disasters to ensure we’re providing needed resources to even more of the communities where Molson Coors and its partners, farmers, and the people who love our brands live and work.”

To produce the water, Molson Coors used its Trenton, Ohio brewery because it sits on a natural aquifer. On May 12, the company paused beer production on one of the main beer lines and thoroughly cleaned it to handle the high-quality canned drinking water.

Trenton Brewery Vice President Gabi Bozdog gave a tour to local media yesterday, giving a behind-the-scenes look at the process. She says that helping the community is central to the Trenton Brewery.

“Molson Coors has a history of being involved in our communities and doing the right thing,” she says. “We are seeing a lot higher demand for disaster water. Here at the Trenton Brewery, we are proud to be able to help.”

She notes that each year the brewery raises about $150,000 for our community and volunteers about 2,000 hours, in addition to the contributions and engagement of Molson Coors’ five other major breweries across the United States.

Bozdog also noted that the support of Molson Coors’ partners is integral to the initiative. She pointed to two other companies that helped with the donation. The Ball Corporation, based in Broomfield, Colorado, supplied the 12-ounce cans, while Graphic Packaging International, from Atlanta, Georgia, donated the 12-pack cartons that the cans are shipped in.

So it can be quickly delivered wherever a natural disaster strikes, the water will be shipped to its breweries in Golden, Colorada; Fort Worth, Texas; Albany, Georgia; and Shenandoah, Virginia.

Last year, Molson Coors’ sent thousands of water cans to those affected by the floods in Houston and Northwest Iowa, fires in the Texas Panhandle and Hurricanes Helene and Milton. In January, it also teamed up with Blue Run Spirits to donate money to the California Fire Foundation’s Wildfire & Disaster Relief Fund after the devastating fires in Southern California.
