PLCB Privatization Compromise Bill Proposed “Privatization-Lite”

CNBC is reporting that a new bill approved by the PA state House of Representatives panel may set the stage for a compromise between the full privatization of the states beer, wine & liquor sales supported by Gov. Ridge, and all alcohol sales remaining under the state’s control.  This bill is being termed “Privatization-Lite” by Liquor Control Committee Chairman John Taylor, and the bill’s supporters called it “the only privatization legislation that has won committee vote in PA since Prohibition” so what follows may be fairly historic for the keystone state.  Unfortunately what follows may be a number of amendments and revisions, followed by come contentions voting.

As it stands the bill would allow beer distributors to license wine sales, and bars/restaurants/distributors to sell beer in quantities not currently available to each…I’m not getting my hopes up just yet, but stay tuned!
